The ‘Year I Make It Happen’
Every year on January 1st, people set themselves resolutions for things that they would like to achieve in the coming year. Most of these resolutions only last a couple of weeks before they are broken, or forgotten, and most of these goals are never realised. This has always been the case for me, but this year I have decided to share my goals in the hope that I will actually stick to them, that this will be the ‘Year I make it happen’.
Lloyds Bank has created a special Facebook ‘Make it Happen’ App designed to help people achieve their goals this year, and I have both liked the page and identified my goal for the year using this. The App identifies goal ideas in three main areas, home, life and money, and then allows you to choose a specific goal from one of, or all of, the areas. There are goals like ‘this is the year I redesign the bathroom'(home), ‘this is the year I start my own business'(life) and ‘this is the year I save for a rainy day'(money). Once you have identified your goal via the App, you are given lots of advice and ideas to help you achieve this.
The goal I have chosen is ‘this is the year to do up the house’. Now, this is quite a broad goal, and in general many of the rooms in my house just need the addition of a few accessories to give them a little bit of a lift. I’ve already made a start with this, ordering new wall and ceiling lights for the living room, and I’m now on the lookout for an Art Deco style mirror and large picture frames for Joe’s school pictures. In addition, I’m searching for the perfect, half-moon shaped rug in a deep shade of red. My living room is currently black and cream and so is in definite need of a pop of colour. I’ve been compiling inspiration on my ‘For the home’ Pinterest board, which you can find here. Lloyds have also provided Pinterest links to fantastic home decor ideas.
The room that I really want to concentrate on though, is my bedroom. A bedroom should be a boudoir, a little sanctuary within the home. But lack of storage, tired paintwork and a pretty threadbare carpet means that this room is truly in need of some tender loving care. The furniture is fine, so this leaves plenty of opportunity to focus on decor and general pretty things that stamp your personality on a room.
Dream Bedrooms
I’m looking forward to bringing you updates about the home improvements this year. You can make your own pledge to make this the year you make things happen today.
