1950s style glamour from Lovedrobe

[affilinet_performance_ad size=468×60]

The 1950s was definitely one of the most glamorous decades of the 20th Century. An era in which some of the most iconic actresses of all time defined the stye, the nipped in waists and full skirts worn by Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn were balanced by the form fitting dresses worn by Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor. It was high octane glamour all the way, and I must admit I often take my style cues from this period.

This is certainly the case with my current favourite dress which comes from Lovedrobe. Lovedrobe is a company that knows how to dress curves. Creating designs in sizes that run from 16 – 28, Lovedrobe has been designing clothes for curves for the past 40 years. The Jacquard detail midi dress is a gorgeous, retro inspired frock that is both unusual and beautiful. It is the sort of dress that the term ‘showstopper’ is applied to.

So, a few things about this dress. The first thing I would say is that the top is very fitted, so if you have a big bust, you may need to size up. The dress is full lined and the fabric is quite stiff, with the black chevron insets being a see through mesh – so pretty! The gold is almost a foil metallic, think scrunched up chocolate wrapper for the effect, and this effect, teamed with the black chevron stripes, makes it a very unusual and dramatic dress.

I wore this dress last night for the opening night of The Nutcracker Ballet at the Birmingham Hippodrome (you can read the review here). I must admit that this is the sort of dress that can make you feel like a princess, the full skirt and midi design is so elegant and glamorous, and combined with the gold, this is the perfect dress for formal Christmas Occasions.

To tie in with the retro feel of the dress, I teamed it with a vintage faux fur coat and vintage heels and a cute slogan bag which I got in the John Lewis sale last year. I kept jewellery to a minimum and instead accessorised with red lips and dark kohl.

Lovedrobe has some incredible dresses and Christmas party looks and currently has an incredible sale on too, it is well worth a look.
