3 Essential Dates In The Horse Racing Calendar
Whether you are an established fan of horse racing or a relative newcomer, it’s well worth keeping informed about the wide range of exciting events that are set to take place across the UK’s racecourses this year.
It can be as simple a process as consulting the horse racing calendar to see what specific events are scheduled, whether at Newbury Racecourse or at other venues up and down the country.
One of the best things about Newbury Racecourse, for example, is that there is always something thrilling in the calendar. So, whether you would specifically like to experience ‘elite of the elite’ horse racing, or you would simply appreciate a fun day out, here are three dates that we reckon you should be marking in your diary this year.
- Friday 13th May: Starlight Charity Raceday
Going to the races can be extremely fun, especially if you arrange a full day with your family, friends or loved ones. However, race days can also be for a good cause. One date you should note from Newbury Racecourse’s horse racing calendar for 2022 is the Starlight Charity Raceday on May 13th. The chairs of the Starlight Charity Foundation have used this race to create a fun-filled day to help raise money for children experiencing terrible illnesses and their families.
This charity is fantastic and really makes an impact on the lives of children experiencing serious illness. Not only is there the horse race to enjoy, but guests of this event will be able to start the day off with drinks. This will continue throughout the day and during the race itself.
Furthermore, the guests will also be able to bid on wonderful gifts and prizes. The money raised from bets from the race and the auction will be used to help families everywhere. So, you will feel good knowing that you can enjoy the Raceday and help people through the process of having fun.
Keep in mind that there are additional charity events that occur during Newbury Racecourse’s 2022 schedule. These include:
- The Laurie Todd Foundation Charity Raceday on 30th June
If you are curious about how you can help out with charity events, make sure to speak to the charities themselves to find out how you can donate. That way, you can feel good about enjoying the race, but also giving back to the people who need the support the most.
- Saturday 16th July: Weatherbys Super Sprint Day
If there’s one event that truly signals the arrival of summer here at Newbury Racecourse, it might well be this one. The Weatherbys Super Sprint itself is a highlight of the flat racing calendar, and is open to two-year-old thoroughbred racehorses.
Not only will you get to enjoy a variety of races that take place on the track, but you will also be able to enjoy food and drink throughout the day. That means it is the perfect event for friends and family to enjoy. This all takes place during the racing section of the day, but there is an additional party afterwards!
That’s right; joining us this year to provide the entertainment on our Party in the Paddock stage will be no less than British R&B legend, Craig David. So, make sure to bring your friends to the dance floor to show off your best dance moves.
- Friday 25th November: Ladbrokes Winter Carnival
Ready to enjoy the winter season in style? One date you need to note in your calendar is the Ladbrokes Winter Carnival. Not only is this a gentleman’s day, but you will love the fact that you will get to dress up in the Peaky Blinders style.
With the chance to be crowned as the “best dressed” of the carnival, and some amazing additional prizes on offer, you will be able to have a great time all day long. You can even enjoy some beer and cider within the ‘Winter Garden’.
Just don’t forget about the racing action while you’re having such a wonderful time! The feature race on this day will be the Grade 2 Ladbrokes Long Distance Hurdle, recent winners of which include Unowhatimeanharry, Thyme Hill and Paisley Park.
