Fashion Icons of Racing Season

Spring is on it’s way (although it has suddenly gone cold again, but I saw Daffodils in the supermarket today and that is a sign that brighter days are just around the corner.) With the arrival of Spring it will soon be time for ladies day season, as the big horse racing events arrive and are circled on the calendar. Ladies Day’s bring an opportunity to wear a beautiful dress, a rather ostentatious hat and have a little bit of sporting fun.

From the Cheltenham Gold Cup, to the Grand National, from Glorious Goodwood and the Derby, and of course, not forgetting Royal Ascot and it’s rather strict dress rules, the most famous racing events on the sporting calendar attract the most glamorous of race goers. Moreover, these days you don’t actually have to attend the actual racing to be part of the Ladies Day parade. Many hotels and venues now hold their own ladies day events. You can enjoy all the fun, the dressing up and the champagne and canapes, all in plush surroundings, and, of course you can still enjoy the thrill of a gamble and bet on ladies day horses at the Cheltenham 2016 festival.

The reason I mention Cheltenham is that this is the first ladies day that is coming up in 2016, taking place on March 2016, offering the best in jump racing and the first opportunity for dressing up.  If you are planning on attending, and have been looking for some style inspiration, then I have put together a few of my favourite ladies who always seem to get it right when it comes to looking fabulous on race days.

Katherine Jenkins

When it comes to perfect dressing for Ladies Day, you would have to look long and hard to beat the always beautiful Katherine Jenkins. The opera singer is an ever present at Royal Ascot, and uses colour wonderfully to ensure that she attracts attention for all the right reasons.  I also love her choice of hats, which always perfectly compliment her choice of dress. Katherine has an old school glamour, sort of like a modern day Veronica Lake, and her style is impeccably glamorous.

Laura Bailey

Laura Bailey is one of my style icons, and, although not a regular on the Ladies Day circuit, when she does attend she channels the style of a modern day Grace Kelly, which can only be a winner. Check out her mint green dress teamed with a nude hat, simple, elegant and totally timeless. In this look she could never be anything less than first past the post. Keep your eyes open for Laura killing it at London Fashion Week next week, and you can check out more of her style on my pinterest board here.

Miranda Kerr

If you want to keep away from the pretty pastal shades and prom style dresses, you could take inspiration from the gorgeous Miranda Kerr. Her race day style is ultra modern, short and flirty, she has even taken a little black dress that makes her look like a glamorous widow and has made it a race day winner. Miranda thinks outside the box for Ladies Day, and it totally works.
