Adella Hemp Plain Frill Dress From Thought

Thought clothing is living proof that looking stylish does not have to, and should not, cost the Earth. Since its inception in 1995, Thought has looked carefully at the fabrics and yarns it uses, the factories that produce its clothing, and the practices around sourcing, creating and transporting their wares to come up with a truly sustainable model.

They say:-

“Each season we look to do better than the season before. Whether that is working with a factory to improve their certificates, sourcing a new sustainable yarn, working with our suppliers to improve accreditation or partnering with a business in the sustainable space to improve our closed loop possibilities.”

The great thing about Thought is just how beautiful and elegant their designs are. In the past, sustainable clothing has sort of been a byword for ‘dippy hippy’ and tie-dye, worthwhile yes, but stylish – hell no! But this can certainly not be said about Thought.

The Adella dress is made from hemp. Hemp is a great alternative to linen, as it looks great, but is actually a stronger fabric that is far more hard wearing, as well as being super soft. Thought clothing has a brilliant hemp section that includes dresses, skirts and shorts in stylish prints and block colours, The Adella dress comes in a print colourway, but I opted for the navy. Navy is a stylish alternative to black in that the colour is softer, and it works well for blondes.

This dress is a dream, it is of a midi length (I’m 5ft 7 and it fits me as a midi, so if you are shorter it may have a more maxi style.) Like all dresses of dreams, it has pockets on either side, and an elasticated waistband that gives the dress a shape which is utterly feminine. I love the frill details on the neckline, with a tie fastening that I chose to wear open to give a more v neck style.

The beautiful frill details that fall across the front of the dress, and on the shoulders and sleeve give a slight boho feel to the dress, but not overtly – this is not a hippy style dress, in fact it could be perfect worn to a Summer wedding, with a large straw hat and tan accessories. I decided to accessorise with natural/neutral accessories, but this would work just as well teamed with a primary red, yellow, or colour clashing shade of green. I wore a Summer sling back shoe, but sandals would work equally well, and even adding a knee high boot and cardigan would take this dress into Autumn with ease.
