An Alternative Christmas Sweatshirt With Dope Soul Village
With Halloween safely out of the way, the coast is definitely clear to start thinking of all things Christmas. When it comes to your wardrobe, this means embracing the Christmas jumper. The giant Santa and snowman designs are all appearing as we speak, but, if you decide that this year you want to embrace something a little different, and, make a difference to a good cause, then maybe you need to take a look at the designs of Samantha Patrick and her brand, Dope Soul Village.
The story behind Samantha’s business, and her designs, is well worth hearing.
Samantha Patrick was born into a military family, and later married into another. Having experienced firsthand how wives and families are treated in the military community, Samantha felt driven to create a safe space where women can seek help from each other and be validated in their traumatic experiences. Samantha’s raw and honest videos on social media have attracted a flood of responses from women in similar positions as her. Using her experiences to shed light into the prevalence of domestic abuse faced by military wives, as well as other issues faced by women globally, Samantha has received hundreds of messages asking for resources and help. In order to maximise her platform for good, she created Dope Soul Village, an ethical fashion and lifestyle brand which donates 20% of profits to women-focused charities.
The Baby I’d Rather Be Cold Outside Hoodie
We all know the song ‘Baby, it’s cold outside’, and that, in recent years, some have questioned if this song is just a bit problematic. I personally don’t think it is, as the woman in the song definitely seems in control, especially in the video with Cerys Mathews and Tom Jones, but this hoodie/sweatshirt is definitely a very cool, feminist reading of the perennial Christmas song, with a message that says ‘Baby I’d rather be cold outside’.
This is just the perfect Christmas hoodie. It is cool in terms of messaging (and just a bit funny too). It is lovely and cosy, with a soft lining that will make it perfect to wear around the Christmas markets. It is also very modern in styling, will look just perfect with jeans and trainers, and will certainly make you a winner on Christmas jumper day.
This is a great piece that you will definitely live in all through the festive season, and it comes in some really lovely colours, and a really great range of sizes that go from XS to XXXL. I am wearing a size L in this which is a snug look, I would possibly size up if you like to wear hoodies/sweatshirts a slightly looser fit.
How I styled it.
