Halloween Inspiration – Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
If you are looking for inspiration for your Halloween outfit, then look no further than the film of the Autumn Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is the long awaited sequel to the brilliant comic horror of the 1980’s, and it has been delighting audiences since it was released last month. I finally got to see it last week, and loved it. It is quirky and funny, has some brilliant comic performances, notably from Catherine O Hara, Michael Keaton and Justin Theroux (totally sending himself up) and is a rewarding follow up to the classic original. It also serves some serious Halloween fashion statements, totally great for Halloween. (Read the Rotten Tomatoes reviews here.)
Winona Ryder, the original Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice, is back to reprise her starring role. Now a middle aged single mother and ghost hunting TV star, the brilliant Wednesday star Jenna Ortega has been introduced as her teenage daughter Astrid, whilst Justin Theroux is her fiance and TV producer Rory. When Lydia’s father is killed in a freak accident, Lydia is forced to return to the original haunted house with her step mother Delia (Catherine O Hara). Beetlejuice is still waiting for her, his one true love, and a series of events conspire to, once again, release the demon. But Beetlejuice have problems of his own, the release of his erstwhile ex wife, Delores, who is baying for his blood. He also has a former TV detective, Jackson (Willem Defoe, very funny), on his tale. When all the lead characters end up in the underworld, we are moving towards an hilarious, Richard Harris tinged, denouement.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is perfect Halloween inspiration in 2024. The Michael Keaton lead has long been a favourite Halloween character, but now we have a quartet of ladies who wear the most stunning of costumes during the wedding scene. Whether you go for the ‘red wedding’ dress of Lydia, the Marie Curie Halloween costume of Astrid, or the dyed black wedding gown of spurned bride Delores, each outfit will certainly be a haunting winner. Add in the very dead gown worn by Delia, and you are literally spoiled for Halloween choice.
