La Cage Aux Folles – Sequins, Feathers and Laughs Galore
La Cage Aux Folles is one of the classic modern musicals and it was in barnstorming force at the Birmingham Hippodrome last night, receiving a glorious standing ovation for an audience that had laughed, cried and been charmed by John Partridge and Adrian Zmed in the lead roles. The story of love and acceptance seems more apt than ever in our modern society where politicians like Dindon seem to becoming more and more prevalent. La Cage Aux Folles is the most glitziest, glamorous nightclub/revue on the French Riviera, and Albin, as Zsa Zsa is it’s most famous (drag) star. In a happy relationship with club owner Georges for over 20…

An evening of shopping and Fizz at Tommy Hilfiger, The Mailbox
Last week I attended a super stylish event at Tommy Hilfiger in Birmingham’s stunning Mailbox. The event was a perfect excuse to preview the new Spring/Summer collections whilst enjoying food treats from Tom’s Dinner and a chilled glass of Champagne. You could also take advantage of 20% off any purchases on the night, allowing you to update your wardrobe and save some pennies. The Tommy Hilfiger store in The Mailbox is a bright shiny store that is a gorgeous back drop to the classic, nautical and preppy designs that are the trademark of TH. This season there are lots of great pieces featuring stripes and pretty prints, as well as…

Funny Girl – Just Incredible At The Birmingham Hippodrome
Last night I was in the audience at the Birmingham Hippodrome to watch ‘Funny Girl’. I left feeling privileged to have watched one of the great modern theatre stars playing a role that she has made her own. Sheridan Smith is sensational as Fanny Brice, and ‘Funny Girl’ is a masterpiece. I was mesmerised from start to finish. ‘Funny Girl’ is the story of the rise of 1920s star Fanny Brice, and of her love story with the gambler and con man Nicky Arnstein. Fanny is a theatre natural, a funny girl who can also bring the house down with the beauty of her voice. Told that she was not…

Tom Aikens is a real star in the cooking world. With two Michelin stars by the age of 26, Tom has recently opened the fabulous Tom’s Kitchen in Birmingham’s plush Mailbox, and the restaurant has been an instant success, a real destination in the City’s thriving food scene. On Monday I went along to Tom’s Kitchen (with a quick pit stop at Tom’s Deli on route) to chat to Tom about all things food. FM: Let’s start by chatting about Tom’s Kitchen. Why Birmingham? Why Mailbox? TA: I started talking about Birmingham two years ago. I’d looked at other cities and was interested in the demographic of the Cities, what…
