Introducing: The Old English Company

If I was to list my current passions it would read something like this:-

  1. My family – natch! Even though there are days when I could happily make them disappear Kevin McAllister style.
  2. Olivier Giroud. He’s still my ultimate man crush, even in a Chelsea Shirt. Hubba Hubba indeed!
  3. Pink Gin and tonic – absolutely my new favourite tipple, it tastes like Summer, even though that feels a long way off.
  4. The Long Run – new TV programme starring the amazing Idris Elba that makes me chuckle.
  5. Stationery from The Old English Company which is totally divine.

The Old English Company produce some of the most beautiful, and personal pieces of stationery that basically sings to a stationery addict like me. Their range is made up of exquisite hand lettered goods that are proudly made in England. I love this comment, which I think sums up the uniqueness of their products:-

The art is in the simplicity of our designs. Following no particular calligraphy rules, all of our products are uniquely hand lettered to create stylish, uncomplicated designs with messages that resonate with people.

The calligraphy of the design follows no rules, this means it can range from the cartoonish and modern, to bold and beautiful. It can resemble those magnetic letters that are used by kiddies learning to spell, and also the cool and trendy as impromptu fridge magnets. The monochromatic designs are both stark and stylish. And whilst it is the stationery that initially caught my eye, stationery is not the whole story, not by a long shot.

There are mugs emblazoned with Papa (fab for Father’s Day maybe), and patches that could decorate a cool rucksack (I love ‘She believed She could so she did’ – a fabulous mantra in the sad days of ‘me too.’). I love the prints, that are full of positive, affirmative messages ( I adore the ‘Throw kindness around like confetti’ one.) and the cute enamel pins that give the impression of old school prefect badges.

To celebrate World Stationery Day, The Old English Company has a competition running where you can currently win a complete set of their latest must have product, the planners featured below. To win, simply follow the link here to find entry details.

Valentine’s Gift Ideas For The Lady In Your Life

We are now just a month from the most romantic time of the year. Yes, Valentine’s Day will soon be upon us, showering us with hearts and flowers and all levels of romance.

If the idea of Valentine’s day fills you with dread because you either don’t know what to buy, or are frankly still struggling financially to get straight after the excess of Christmas, then read on. I am going to be bringing you a whole heap of Valentine’s ideas that I promise will not break the bank and should offer enough variety to make everyone smile.

Lypsyl’s red fruity flavours

If you are looking for a little something for a loved one, but the budget isn’t allowing it, you could give them the gift of soft, kissable lips. Lypsyl has two very special fruity flavours that are perfect for Valentine’s day as they help to both soothe and smooth those lips making them totally kissable. The red packaging is another cute touch.

The two flavours are uplifting Strawberry and Pomegranate and revitalising Cherry & Almond, both of which deliver a dose of softly scented hydration Lypsyl sticks contains a rich, hydrating blend of natural Shea and Cocoa butters, Avocado Oil, Beeswax, Aloe Vera and Vitamin E. This makes them perfect for conditioning and protecting in cold Winter weather.

Sparkling Wine Jelly Belly Jelly Beans

Another cute buy for the love of your life are the Sparkling Wine Jelly Belly Jelly Beans that come in a mini Champagne style bottle. The sparkling wine flavoured Jelly Belly beans have all the flavour of a glass of the real thing but are totally non alcoholic. The jelly beans would make a great little gesture of your love if you are not into big, ostentatious gifts, but could also work well as favours at a wedding. For just £3 these are a delightful buy that would definitely put a smile on any face.

Jenny Wren Chocolates

I don’t think you can ever really go wrong with the gift of chocolates, and if they are beautifully gift boxed, hand finished Belgian chocolates, even better. Jenny Wren chocolates were founded in July 2016 by Mike Stainfield from Tunbridge Wells. He said:

“We make the only chocolate gift boxes that you can buy for under £10.00 and still get a ‘wow!’ from the recipient! Children also love the boxes once they’re emptied – for putting small keepsakes, toys and jewellery in! ”

The chocolates are totally delicious, a good range of soft centres and truffles that taste so divine it will be hard to eat one without then eating the whole box. I love the Fleur de Sel caramel flavour and the white mocha. But once you do eat the box, you are left with a gorgeous keepsake box that would look gorgeous on a dressing table.

The chocolates are available from Sainsbury’s, and from the 22nd January you can pick them up at the special price of £6.49, saving £1.50 on the RRP.

Castelli Art Deco Notebook from The Gifted Notebook

A thoughtful gift this Valentine’s Day could be the gift of a beautiful notebook, perfect for those who love to jot down their thoughts, notes and lists. The Gifted Notebook has a beautiful selection of notebooks, journals and pens that offer something a little different and extra special this Valentine’s day. My key pick is from the Castelli range. It is the Art Deco notebook that is a simply stunning, embossed book with a classic Art Deco rising sun style design. It comes with a gold tipped triangular pencil, is sized 130 x 210mm and has 240 pages.

I love the fact that you can have this wrapped and gift boxed for an extra £2.99, making this a real beautiful gift that will be treasured. Definitely one that would be high up on my list.

7th Heaven Complete Pamper Pack

Montagne Jeunesse create the fabulous 7th Heaven masks, a range that includes facial masks and scrubs, hair masks, hand and nail treatments, and treatments that can be used on the feet as part of a pedicure. A Gift of Love from Pen Heaven

These days it is all about technology. Smartphones, Ipads, Apple watches, it seems we use our technology for everything, and that includes using them as our diaries, for our notes, writing blogs, emails and memo’s. And yet, even in these days when it seems that paper is so over, stationery is having a bit of a resurgence. Instagram is full of beautiful images of Notebooks and pens, gorgeous diaries and post-it notes, with #stationery and #stationerygeek being much used hashtags. Maybe we are not quite as modern as we like to think, and still love the feel of paper in our hands when it comes to our notes, our thoughts and our ideas.

With this in mind, Pen Heaven have come up with a beautiful range of gifts that are perfect for those who love the traditional written word. The company, founded in 2008, offer a comprehensive range of writing instruments and leather journals offering in-house engraving and embossing. This season, with Valentine’s Day firmly in mind, they have put together a gorgeous range of products that include the red leather Napoli journal that retails at £32.99 and is just stunning.

Napoli Leather Journal with Gold Heart £32.99 Click to visit Pen Heaven

For someone who loves to write, this is the perfect gift. For a start, it is beautifully made, in soft textured leather from Italy. The size of the book (Size: 13cm x 17cm) means that it is not too big, you could easily carry this in a large handbag or tote bag – useful if you are recording your innermost thoughts in it, or if you need to keep a notebook handy for blog thoughts or ideas. The cover has a gold leaf embossed heart on the flap, and the gold theme continues with gold gilded paper – a real touch of luxury.

The pages are superb quality, in Acid free plain paper. This could mean that as well as a journal or a notebook, this could also work as a small sketchpad. The tie ribbon fastening keeps your thoughts safe from sight and gives the book a very vintage, traditional feel. And, if you are giving this as a gift, you could, of course, write a message of love on the first page, adding to the special feel to what is already a really beautiful gift.
