Hot from The Look Show runway – Next’s new looks.
Next was one of the main stars of The Look runway show that was held in the new Stratford Westfield shopping centre at the end of November. They focused on three key themes for Autumn/Winter party looks, which encapsulated a range of styles, from the sexy chic of a little black dress, to the androgyny of a smart tuxedo. And there was the ultimate goddess maxi dress that could take you from the coolness of Autumn evenings to the depths of the Christmas party season with ease. So, take a look at these key styles and tell me – which girl are you?
Look 1
The Next take on the little black dress. This is perfect for girls who look to the 1960s for style inspiration. Stretchy knit and chiffon make this both comfortable and stylish. Love the idea of this with black opaque tights and platform shoes for a minimal take on evening style. This dress is cool enough to speak for itself.
Who would wear it? Alexa Chung, Alice Dellal, Diana Vickers.
Look 2
The colour block maxi dress is a real beauty. Grecian in style, with the flattering pleats and the halter style neckline, this dress is one that will cover a range of occasions. I love the vibrancy of the colours, which, like so many things this year, have a 70s feel to them.My personal favourite is the blue, and this is definitely the dress I would opt for. Think girlie girls like Jessica Alba, Emma Stone and Nicole Richie.
Look 3
The white jersey tuxedo jacket is a real androgynous piece, but one that can be styled ultra feminine. You could add leather trousers and a vest or camisole to make this a sexy masculine style. But you could also take Olivia Palermo’s lead and use the tux as a cover-up for an elegant evening dress to get that effect of throwing George Clooney’s tux over your bare shoulders. Whatever you choose, this would be one cool and useful addition to your winter evening wardrobe. Girls who would definitely try this boyish look include Janelle Monae, Chloe Sevigny and Olivia Palermo – of course!
