Improving Your Outside Space This Winter.

There is a tendency, once the weather starts to turn cooler, to start to ignore our gardens and outside spaces. We sometimes feel that it is far cosier to stay indoors and just to admire the view from our windows. But this is a shame, as a garden really should be enjoyed all year around, and with a few improvements to our outdoor space, we can create an all year, all weather environment to enjoy.

Add Some Decking

Adding some decking is a great way to make your garden a little bit more weather proof. Grass and lawns get sodden and muddy during bad weather, but decking doesn’t have any of these problems and can therefore allow you to enjoy your garden even on cooler days, or after days of rain. With decking, you need to ensure it is installed properly so it does not rise, involving a company like Tall Timber Construction, who offer expert deck building throughout Kansas, will ensure that your decking looks beautiful, and is also sturdy and safe.

You can add some furniture, and also other accessories. A good tip if you have a large garden, with a larger decking area is to look at stores which sell dock accessories as they will have a good range of accessories, particularly in areas such as deck lighting. There should be a lumber company near you who should sell dock supplies and lumber if you were interested in building your own decking.

A wood burner is also a great addition to your decking area. Dry, crisp Winter days are a great time to enjoy your the nature of your garden, but the cold can stop you doing this, so adding a heat source is a positive step in making more use of your garden.

Add a Log Cabin

Why should Santa have all the fun when it comes to log Cabins? If you have a larger garden, these buildings are actually a great way to add more living space to your home by utilising the outside area.  They can be as small or as large as you want, varying in use so that they can be anything from a children’s playhouse to a home office, or a beautiful garden room that can be enjoyed all year around. These days Log Cabins in the UK can be just as tough and durable as their Scandinavian counterparts, as they are now made with Nordic Spruce rather than timber framing used in the past.

Where Log Cabins really differ from a general shed or outhouse is in the security and comfort. Even in chilly Winter, the fact that the cabins are constructed using double glazing, proper tongue and groove floors and roofing mean that this will feel more like a room in a house, rather than something sitting in your garden. In addition, the high-security latches and locks mean that the cabin can be locked up securely when it is not in use.

There are so many styles that range from those traditional cabins you see in Switzerland and the Alps, to very modern designs that look like they were dreamed up on that Kevin McCloud programme. You can quite literally build a dream cabin in your own garden. Just watch that Santa doesn’t spot it when he’s doing his rounds and doesn’t decide to move in!

Add a hot tub

Hot tubs were once confined to the homes of the rich and famous, but this is no longer the case. They can be used all year around, (I would advise adding some sort of canopy in Winter though) and can now be picked up for less than £500. They are a great way to relax and unwind, and will certainly give your outside space another added attraction.
