Format

The book is divided into sections that cover North, South, East, West and Central London, and offer suggestions for each area of the city. As well as the 50 individual shops covered, there are also more general areas that are called ‘pockets of Interest’ – these are Columbia Road and Cecil Court. Each shop has at least one stunning colour photograph which give you a real flavour of the store, as well as the address and information about the shop.

The Message

There is a real message in this book, apart from the obvious one of sharing all these wonderful shops in the hope you will get to visit one or two. It is so important in the current climate to try, as much as we can, to shop independent, and to support small businesses, whether they be new start ups with young, entrepreneurial owners, or cherished family stores that have been in the same family for many years, real traditional shops of the kind that are a dying breed.

Final Thoughts

I’ve already said that I love this book. It works in two ways, firstly as a guidebook that would be perfect for take with you on your next trip to London. It also works if you just enjoy stunning photography that shows the very heart of a city, and like to read and find out about some of the lesser known gems that London has to offer.
