Marilyn Spot Midi Dress from Scarlett & Jo

I have long been a fan of Scarlett & Jo. I believe they produce beautiful, elegant clothes for plus sized women that are a long way from the smocks, loose tents and butterfly prints that used to be the norm. In particular, their dresses absolutely love and salute your curves, making the wearer look and feel fabulous and glamorous.

I was recently asked if I would like to review one of the classic dresses from Scarlett & Jo. I say classic because the brand does not abandon its designs once a season ends, but continues to develop the designs by introducing new prints and colour ways. The dress that I fell in love with was the Marilyn Spot Midi dress in the stunning Atonement Green shade with ivory spots.

The Marilyn dress obviously has its roots in the sunray pleat Travilla dress that Marilyn Monroe wore in The Seven Year Itch, with a similar neckline and full skirt. On the Scarlett & Jo website it is worn by the stunning George, who totally owns the look with her curves, and whilst I don’t have quite the curves of George, using a plus sized model does give you a great idea of how the dress will look.

The dress is frankly a dream to wear, I am 5ft 7 so it hangs mid calf on me, but I still think this would look great a little shorter or longer. It is a true fit to size (I am wearing a 16) and because it is lined with an almost retro style petticoat, the shape is slightly a-line and very 1950s feeling. The waistline is accentuated with the pleated band that helps to define your shape, and the overall feeling is of elegance, it is such a feminine dress to wear.

This dress would be perfect for a Summer wedding or a day at the races, and could be easily teamed with a crop cardigan or jacket for cooler days. I wore it with pointed stilletoes, but think a strappy sandal, or even a wedge would work well too.

I wore this dress to the press night for Beautiful at the Wolverhampton Grand and it was perfect, especially as it was rather a warm night in the theatre and the dress was very cool.
