M&S – Picks from the Press Day and seasonal treats for Christmas
The Marks and Spencer press day has become one of the key events when looking towards a new season on fashion. Held at the beautiful No1 Marylebone, this is always an event not to be missed, one that promises to be full of the designs you will be wearing next season.
The Spring/Summer event took place a couple of weeks ago and I was lucky enough to be sent an invitation. The ranges were organised under evocative titles, ‘White Out’ offered crisp, clean, minimal lines in the colour that is always most perfect for accompanying a suntan in Summer. I loved the Charlotte Rampling inspiration of the white trouser suit, with a slick white trenchcoat worn over the top. The ‘Worldwide’collection was infused with colourful prints designed to be worn, mismatched, with bold jewellery and teamed with oversized clutch bags.
The romance and pastel colours of ‘pretty things’ is, as the name suggests, just so pretty, with broderie anglaise and cool, simple cotton shapes, whilst ‘paintbox’ just explodes in colour, the classic dress designed to be worn any wear and everywhere, in classic navy and jewelled emerald. I love that leather and suede are still stories for Spring/Summer- 2013 may’ve been a scorcher, but that hasn’t been the story for the Summer over the past few years, and the fact that thin knits and jackets are now a major part of M&S collections attests to this.
All in all, there are some really gorgeous pieces that show that M&S continues to up its game fashion wise. More than a nod to key trends, but with the mark of M&S quality running through.
