New season focus – BHS

In recent seasons BHS has seen a style revival that puts it right at the top of the list for stylish, yet affordable clothing. In addition to housing Wallis and Dorothy Perkins concessions, their own branded clothing has become something that is definitely worth looking at. Last year I wore BHS dresses to two major Midland fashion events, the Harvey Nichols fashion show, and Style Birmingham Live after party, and both dresses got lots of compliments, and a few shocked looks when I said ‘It’s from BHS.’

This season, a few pieces have already been appearing in the press and eliciting really positive comments for the style, cut and colours used. With black, white and red being the key colours, it is sort of fitting that they have been gaining some column inches (I can’t be the only one who remembers that old joke – what’s black, white and read all over am I?). There is also a lot of grey, not quite 50 shades, but still enough to add that always useful blending shade to your wardrobe, and a lovely contrast colour for the red.

In terms of influence, I love the Bella Freud style of the ‘Love’ jumper, while the fit and flare coat is something you could imagine the Duchess of Cambridge wearing. The black and white funnel neck dress is very 1960s in style, and I could well imagine Alexa Chung loving the sexy, yet covered up look.
