Stylish Workwear from Daxon

When it comes to finding work wear that is practical and stylish, that can take you from a meeting to drinks in the bar, where is the first place you look? I’m guessing that not many of you would be saying Daxon right now, but in actual fact Daxon is a really great choice for affordable work pieces that can offer practical design with a stylish edge.

I was asked to put together a work wear outfit using pieces from Daxon. This was an outfit that would be suitable for an important meeting so needed to look smart, but also needed to be something that could be dressed up for networking events, or after work cocktails. Here are the pieces I chose.

The Dress

First I chose a dress. In my opinion, dresses are a great choice for everyday wear – they look smart and elegant when teamed with a blazer, but can then be transformed with a necklace or a brooch.  The dress I chose was the Crealine Expert Design crossover dress. This has a flattering neckline, but is not too low or revealing. The pencil length sits just on the knee, a good length for me – it shows some leg but not too much. I loved the ruching on the side, another figure fixing detail, and the fabric, which was 100% polyester has the feel of silk which makes it a luxurious choice too.

The Coat

With Winter just around the corner, a good quality, every day coat is a must have for any work wardrobe. I opted for a grey, wool effect coat which I think would look good worn over both dresses and trousers. Grey is a good alternative to black, which is smart, but can look sombre. The coat pictured above is not the exact one that I chose, as that is now out of stock, but this is a great, classic style that would enhance any outfit.

The Bag

The bag I chose was this oversized clutch style bag from Balsamik. This is super stylish, with a chain handle, a felt style front flap and zip detailing around the edging. This bag is great, I can’t recommend it enough. It is big enough to carry an ipad, diary and any other work essentials, so despite its glamorous appeal, it has a real practical side too.

So how did the outfit look when put together? I wore it this week for some meetings, and then took my new pieces to a blogger event. The outfit was wearable and I think it was totally appropriate for both events.

What do you think?

TM Lewin’s dress collection goes from Strength to Strength

Do you remember the days when you would go to TM Lewin when you needed a smart shirt to wear underneath your work suit? For years, TM Lewin built its reputation on providing the perfect shirt that was suitable for work wear, for both men and women. But now it is also becoming a great destination to find versatile dresses that can take you from the office to the restaurant just by changing your shoes and accessories.

I reviewed a TM Lewin dress from the Summer collection and was really impressed with the cut, quality and style. The new season is continuing where Summer left off, with great prints and easy to wear styles that have both practicality and sophistication. The Stella Ruche dress is an excellent example of this.

The Stella Ruche dress is a soft, jersey style dress that can be put on over the head (no zips or buttons!). It has a gorgeous ruched detail on the side that helps to define the waist, and the striking animal print has a deep blue running through it that is both unusual and smart. The fabric, which is 95% polyester, 5% elastane, feels almost like a brushed velour, it has such quality to it. The style sits on the knee, and could easily be worn with either boots, heels or flat shoes to create different looks.

DSCN9576This dress is truly versatile, it wouldn’t look out of place for smart work wear, or worn for an evening out, which is how I wore it for a special birthday meal for my sister-in-law at a gastropub. I added blue heels to draw out the colour of the pattern, and a silver necklace that sat on the boat style neckline. It was cold so I added opaque tights, but I think this dress could be trans-seasonal and you could certainly go bare legged if the weather permitted.

Boohoo Plus size range just gets better

It is no secret that I’m a real fan of the plus size range that Boohoo introduced late last year. I have quite a few pieces in my wardrobe and they tick a whole lot of boxes. They are well sized – if anything they can be quite generous, they are superbly priced, and the style and quality have both proven to be pretty good. Now Boohoo are further extending the collection, with pretty much anything you need for Autumn/Winter included in the latest collection.

The dress I am reviewing on the blog today is now in the sale, and I would say it is an absolute bargain if you are a dress fan. The Charlotte Mesh inset dress comes in two colour ways, black and a very sweet coral colour, which is the colour I went for, just for a change.  The dress had cap sleeves, a knee length skirt, and a very eye-catching lace/mesh panel. I liked the simplicity of the dress on the website – the neckline took away the problem of finding a necklace, and the length was just right, neither too short or long.

I do like this dress, but must admit that  I wish I had opted for the black, as I think I would probably wear it more. I loved the fact that it was stretchy in a sort of scuba material, this is the sort of dress that just goes on over the head, with no zips or fastenings. The colour is gorgeous, a lovely deep coral shade that contrasts so well with the cream mesh detail.

DSCN9496I do have a couple of issues with the dress though. Firstly, this is not the dress I would wear if I was going out for something to eat – it clings to the stomach a little, so no good for hiding a food baby. Secondly, the beautiful lace panel on the front is a little low for me, it revealed a lot of bra and so I added a vest underneath to spare some of my blushes. But, all in all, I really liked how pretty it was. It was a very different style for me to wear.

I wore this dress for a night at the ballet. It was a lovely warm evening, and so the colour and style seemed just right. I added animal print accessories, and just a large cuff bangle.
