New Season style for the Harvey Nichols Birmingham Fashion Show
Last Thursday saw Birmingham’s most fashionable folk turn out in style for Harvey Nichols A/W fashion show. Held in the fabulous Fashion Theatre in The Mailbox, this was a real taste of what is to come this season, complete with autumnal leaves lining the red carpet.
Harvey Nichols always knows how to put on a show, and this was no exception. The fashion theatre was buzzing with a great crowd of excited fashionista’s (and fashionisto’s) enjoying the pre-show champagne and style chat. The Adee Phelan salon in The Cube had been tasked with creating some ultra modern hairstyles for the models, whilst the ever reliable MAC had control of the make-up. This promised to be a show to remember, full of the new, fashion forward brands that Harvey Nichols, Birmingham is becoming known for. Alice and Olivia, Markus Lupfer, Wildfox, Isabel Marant Etoile, Malene Birger, Phillip Armstrong and Sass and Bide were all on the agenda, a strong line up of edgy, fashion forward brands.
The show got off to an amazing start when presenter Frankie McCamley from Radio WM appeared on stage in the Sass and Bide dress I am currently obsessing over. The show then started and we were treated to one glorious outfit after another, with styles that suited by daytime occasions and full length and fabulous evening glamour.
All the key trends were on display. There were acres of purple fabric, lots of very skinny jeans and tight trousers teamed with more feminine blouses. I love the fun knits from Markus Lupfer and Wildfox that offered warmth and cosiness whilst retaining an element of cool due to quirky slogans. There were some looks that definitely bordered on glam grunge, with long skirts and baggy knits teamed with 1980s style fabulous flying jackets.
There was also a real focus on the sort of classics that make great investments pieces for your wardrobe. Reefer jackets in red, tuxedo style suits and jodhpurs are all wardrobe staples that were styled to fabulous advantage during the show.
My favourite collection was that created for evening wear. This actually drew gasps from the audience, particularly for an ivory embellished dress from Jeffrey Campbell which I think was the highlight of the whole evening. The Sass and Bide long dress with beaded vest effect underneath was another piece that demanded your full attention, whilst there were also elements of draping and Grecian styling that were just beautiful.
The wholse show was a fabulous display of true Autumn style, and left much to savour and lust after. I can’t finish this post without mentioning the absolutely amazing shoes that I was just mesmerized by. Jeffrey Campbell’s and Louboutins, with the odd Jimmy Choos thrown in for good measure just left me lusting in shoe heaven.
With huge thanks to Harvey Nichols Birmingham, and Lisa Piddington for the invitation.
