Reviewed – Retro Shoes from Naturalizer

When I was a little girl, there was always something a little bit risque about red shoes. They had an edge of danger, and of glamour and beauty. From Norma Shearer dancing her heart out in The Red Shoes, to David Bowie telling us to put on our red shoes and dance the blues, red shoes were grown up, graceful and sexy. I thought that then, and still believe it to be true now.

When I was asked if I wanted to review a pair of Naturalizer shoes c/o Lotus, I was instantly drawn to the 1940s style L’Ulrich design. This pair of Mary Janes have a patent toe and heel, and a suede foot, and come in a range of colours including black and Ocean blue. But they also come in a wonderfully deep red, and that was always the colour I was going to be drawn too.

Naturalizer shoes are designed with an eye always on the level of comfort. They are the shoe that promises perfect fit, and have many features that will ensure that your shoes not only look good,  but feel good too. The L’Ulrich design is part of the Naturalizer N5 comfort range that have five essential features. These are;-

    • Extra Cushioning
    • Breathable Linings
    • Balance With Every Step
    • Flexible Soles
    • Lightweight Material

Some comfortable shoes can be a little on the frumpy side, but the L’Ulrich’s are just gorgeous. They have a real look of a vintage shoe, with an elasticated faux front strap that gives them almost a retro dancing shoe feel. The heel is 7cm high, which is fine for every day wear. I gave these a real test drive by wearing them for a shopping trip, and they remained comfortable and easy to wear for the whole afternoon, no aching feet or blisters.

I think you could easily wear this design for both daytime or evening wear. I styled with a vintage tea dress that I had picked up in a charity shop for £4.50, and I thought the shoes just added the right vintage touch to the look. I think the shoes would also look great with navy or black peg trousers, or with a little black dress for more formal occasions.

I think these shoes are brilliant. They look great and are comfortable enough to wear all day long, and all evening too! These shoes bring out the Dorothy Gale in us all.

*I was gifted these shoes in return for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
