An Autumn Fashion Wishlist

Did you know that today is officially the last day of Summer? Yes, the Autumn Equinox is tomorrow, 23rd September, and Summer (or what we had of it this year), is no more. But before you start weeping with fear of the coming cold days and long nights take a minute to think of your new Autumn Wardrobe. Because now the new season is officially here, you have every excuse to add something warm, cosy and oh so stylish to your own Autumn collection.

Jules B is a great place to put together a fabulous Autumn look. Stocking brands like Vivienne Westwood, Senso, Alice + Olivia and J Brand, you can put together outfits for any occasion – day or night. I have been browsing the site long and hard and have put together my Autumn wishlist, pieces that have caught my eye and that I would love to be adding to my own Autumn Wardrobe.

Bootcut jeans are back this season, and this pair, from J Brand almost have a kick flare effect, making them a perfect way to tie into the 1970s trend without looking like you’re in fancy dress.

This Alice+Olivia skirt is totally my style. I love the vibrant print, the stunning blue colour and the 1950s shape. Audrey Hepburn would’ve looked fabulous in this in Roman Holiday.

A hat is a must for Autumn and Winter, if only to stop hair disasters in the wayward wind. I love this design by Barbour, it will be a great match for any winter coat.

Reviewed – Army and Navy Reed Shawl Neck Jumper

The Army and Navy brand from Howick, which is currently stocked at House of Fraser, is one with a strong and proud British heritage. First founded in 1871 by Army and Navy Officers, the brand has, over the years, expanded and gone from strength to strength, becoming an international success story and offering clothes that are strong on both style and quality, with that mark of heritage which still seems to resonate in the 21st Century.

House of Fraser recently offered my hubby Pete the chance to review a piece from their current menswear ranges that include Label Lab, Criminal and Howick. Pete opted for a jumper from the Army and Navy collection, the Reed Shawl Neck Jumper. This is a jumper that has two great selling points, it is strong on style due to the unusual shawl neckline and button detail, but it is also practical, being a really warm piece to wear.

The jumper comes in a dark green, almost tweed knit that adds to the heritage look and feel of the product, with a knot style button very reminiscent of those found on traditional Arran cardigans. The fit is true to size – Pete wears a medium in this jumper, and has a fair amount of stretch to add to the comfort levels. This can be worn layered over a shirt, or just as a stand alone piece, and looks great teamed with jeans, or cords and desert boots. Although it is a thick jumper, it is not too thick that it cannot be worn under a winter coat when the temperatures begin to plummet.

DSCN0835I think this jumper is a really smart piece that works well for both casual occasions, and also daytime events that call for a slightly smarter look. I have added some pictures below of Pete wearing the jumper for a trip to the theatre to see the panto – I think the jumper is perfectly acceptable for this occasion. Joe is also wearing a shawl collar jumper for this trip.

House of Fraser have a great menswear range that is well worth a look, particularly at the moment as the New Year sale continues. Check out the current ranges here.

Review – Planet black tuxedo style jacket

In yesterday’s blog I talked about how a faux fur coat is the perfect cover up for when you are going out for an evening occasion. For some people though, a big coat is not the answer. In these cases, I think a stylish blazer or tuxedo style jacket can work well when worn over a slinky dress, or teamed with tapered trousers for an androgynous look. I have recently been sent a stunning tuxedo style jacket from Planet (part of the Jacques Vert group) and I have already been wearing this jacket to great effect during the party season. It is stylish, easy to wear and is cut to fit and flatter the figure.

The Planet black jacket is in a silky, satin blend fabric that automatically makes it an evening option. The style is collarless, but with paneling that gives it the look of a dinner jacket. The silk lining adds to the luxury of the item, whilst I also love the pockets which are real, rather than for show. I have worn this jacket over a prom style dress with a full skirt, and also with a sequined skirt and a camisole top, both for events at the theatre where there was just a short walk from the car, so I could leave a bigger, warmer coat at home.

10502401_810968162278283_5126529796722472244_nFor me, this jacket is a great dressy option, and I can’t wait to try it with black trousers to try to create a tuxedo style suit, or wide leg trousers for a 1930s look outfit. The jacket is currently in the sale at Planet, reduced to £59, with most sizes available, so it is a great time to add this versatile piece to your wardrobe.

Here are a few more sales jackets and coats that are definitely worth a look.
