Reviewed – Scarlett & Jo Purple Embellished Shift Dress
When you mention the name Scarlett and Jo to anyone, they automatically think of the ‘Powerfit’ dresses, those form-fitting, curve enhancing frocks that have a real feel of the Roland Mouret Galaxy dress about them. But there is more to Scarlett and Jo than just the powerfit, they have a great range of 1960s style dresses, prom queen styles and everyday tunics too. That’s why it is such a pleasure to be asked to review a different dress from the current range, the ‘purple embellished shift dress’.
This is a showstopper of a dress, rich in colour and covered in beautiful, bugle bead embellishment. The shape is a retro 1960s style shift, with a tie back to help define the waist. The skirt ends just above the knee on me (I’m 5ft 7in) and so is short enough to be sexy, without being too short. The dress has the much-lauded after 3/4 sleeves which are made even more appealing by being sheer and cuffed. And the neckline is softened by being a scoop neck, more flattering that an crew neckline, but not as showy as a v neck.
This is a really great dress for Christmas parties. It is dressy and yet easy to wear with a stretchy under layer that gives a bit of space if you decide to over-indulge in the festive grub. The colour is unusual, , making a nice change from the Christmassy reds and greens, and also from the little black dress. The scoop neckline means you can wear a necklace, but the embellishment gives you the choice – you can leave it plain and simple too and this would be equally as effective.
Scarlett and Jo have lots of fabulous dresses that would make perfect Christmas gifts or outfits. Here are a few more worth a look.

you know, I dont think the shop picture ( the first one on you post) does the dress justice – the colour is dark and its hard to see the pattern on the front, so i am so glad you took your own pictures of the dress. Your pictures show up the colour and pattern so much better – its a really, really nice dress!!

Thank you/ Sometimes dresses photograph better in the flesh than in the web shots, I think the embellishment shows up much better in my piccies. It is a beautiful dress.
