Making your bedroom a perfect place

The bedroom is one of the most important rooms in your home. Not only is it the place where you sleep, it is also somewhere to relax and unwind after a long day. By making a few simple changes to your bedroom, you can not only enhance the look of it but also create your own perfect space. A stylish but cozy bedroom is the perfect place to escape to.

One of the most important things to think about when creating the perfect bedroom is your bed. Having the right bed is essential, not just for the look of your room but also for your comfort. Having a comfortable bed will enable you to get a good night’s sleep and will provide the perfect place to relax. You can keep your bed comfortable by taking care of your mattress – use a mattress protector to keep your mattress in good condition and if it begins to feel lumpy or uncomfortable, then consider changing it. You can also buy luxury type single bedding in a simple, classic design to give your room that luxurious feel.

Another aspect of your bedroom that is worth looking at to improve the look of your room is a solid wood floor. Carpets are subjected to wear and tear that can leave them looking sorry even if they are relatively new, whereas a solid wood floor, not only looks attractive, but is hard wearing too. I personally think wooden floors also age well, ageing can add a little character which just adds to the look and personality of the floor, and hence the room.

Thinking about what you plan to use your bedroom for will help you to decide on how to make the most of your space. You can make your bedroom a place just for yourself by adding items such as a desk or a bookshelf. This will enable you to use your bedroom space effectively, as you can create a personal space that it is suitable for activities such as reading, as well as your own personal workspace.

Love this room!

You can also consider adding a TV to your bedroom to create the perfect place to relax and make the room feel more like your own. Adding a few decorative items such as some photos or art will also help to add a more personal touch. Installing some shelves is an ideal way to create extra space in your bedroom, as it will help to keep it organized and keep your floor free of clutter. If your bedroom is small, then space-saving items such as a desk with built-in drawers, or a chest of drawers that can also be used as a place to store your TV are a useful addition.

There are many simple design changes that you can make to your bedroom that can be done on a tight budget. Choosing the right wallpaper and curtains will help you to create your own personal bedroom space. Natural lighting is also essential for a bedroom. You can create extra light by adding affordable wooden shutters to your room. Shutters will help to make your bedroom more suitable for activities such as reading, relaxing, studying or sleeping, as you can easily control the amount of natural light in the room.

By making these simple changes, you can easily transform your bedroom into a perfect space. Exploring different designs will enable you to decide what bedroom themes and layouts work best for you. A comfortable bed and a room that is cozy but functional will enable you to have the perfect bedroom space for your needs.

Spring Clean And Revamp Your Bedroom

Spring is a time that is synonymous with Spring cleaning and revamping, especially when it comes to your home. Fresher, warmer days make you want to blow away the dark cobwebs of Winter, and getting rid of your clutter and adding some fresh, bright colours to your home is a good way of doing this. Today I am going to look at just one room of your home, in this case the master bedroom, and how you can revamp this without spending too much money doing so.

The Bed

The bed is at the heart of the room, but this can make it a very big and expensive item to change, so we need to look instead at how we dress it. A new duvet and hotel quality pillows can make it seem like you have a whole new bed, whilst an attractive duvet set in a bright pattern or print can change the look of your whole room.

Groupon is a great place to look for bedroom additions, it currently has a brilliant range of duvet sets, mattress toppers, pillows and sheets that will make your bed look so good, you will find it hard to get out of it in the morning.

Your Dressing Table

Your dressing table can be the real beautiful focal point of your room, it can also be a cluttered mess. You need to be careful that it doesn’t become a dumping ground for jewellery, cosmetics and anything else that should really be stored somewhere neatly. So make it beautiful – look for vintage vanity pieces in charity and junk shops, use beautiful and unusual perfume bottles for decoration, and make sure that jewellery can be stored in a gorgeous glass jewellery box. You will then have a space which looks amazing – and you will be able to see in the mirror too!

Add Some Images

Bare walls are all very well and minimal, but adding some images – whether they be family photos or some sort of print, will certainly improve the cosiness factor. One way to add images very cheaply is to use postcards. You may already have some of these in your home – kitsch holiday ones, cute animals, landmarks you have seen. These can then be added to frames which can be picked up very cheaply from Poundland and can be used to create a collage style effect. I have done this in my bedroom with old theatre and film postcards, and these look unique and interesting.

Get a rug

Can’t afford to chane your carpet? A bit bored with your laminate floor? A rug is a great way to revamp your floor and add another level of cosy to your room. The best sort of rug for the bedroom is something ultra fluffy, and the best place to put it is at the precise spot where your feet will leave the bed on those cold mornings.

How would you revamp your room this Spring? Do you have any makeovers planned for your home?

Bedroom Environment insights with Hillarys

A while ago I was asked if I would be interested in contributing to an infographic that was being produced by Hillarys blinds. The idea was that Hillarys were putting together a useful guide to a how to create a perfect Zen bedroom environment, a place that would make relaxing and getting to sleep easy.

I was asked for my thoughts on how colour can affect the calm of a bedroom, and which colours in particular would be good if you were looking to create an Oasis of calm, and which would be best avoided if you wanted to avoid restless nights. You can read the whole infographic here,  (click on each icon to check out all the different insights), my section is pictured below.

I talked about how neutral tones are soothing and peaceful, or how colours that sea blues can transport you to the calm of the ocean. I told how you should avoid colours like deep reds and oranges, as these are like a shock to the senses, and are more likely to keep you awake and alert than lull you off to the land of Nod.

The rest of the infographic has also been put together by lifestyle bloggers, and deals with lighting, furniture, scents, the view, plants, electronics in the bedroom and clutter – literally everything that could be affecting your ability to get a good nights sleep.

What tips would you give for a perfect bedroom environment? If you are struggling to get to sleep – maybe your room is part of the problem?
