The World’s Biggest Panto may just be the greatest ever
It has been billed as the World’s biggest panto, the only one that could boast of a cast of 100, an award winning gospel choir and a Bollywood dance troop. Cinderella opened in Birmingham at the Barclaycard Arena on Sunday night and it is totally wowing audiences with his mixture of panto, circus, dance and song. It is more than a mere pantomime, it may well be the ultimate Christmas spectacle. I was spellbound. We all know the story of Cinderella so I don’t think I’m spoiling the surprise for anyone when I say all the elements of the original story are in place, albeit with a slight twist in…

Forget 50 Shades, for fans of fairytale romance and opulent costumes, the real cinematic treat of the year opens next month. Kenneth Branagh’s retelling of Cinderella, featuring Downton Abbey star Lily James as the epoynmous heroine, has already received some great reviews, and promises to bring frothy, glittering fun to the screen, with dresses fit for Disney princesses. From the stills that have already appeared online, Cinderella is a sumptuous, visual feast. For girls who grew up loving the classic Disney version, the good news is that when Cinderella does get to the ball, she is still wearing a blue gown…and what a gown it is. Think every little girl’s…

It’s Panto time as Cinderella thrills Wolverhampton
With the always fabulous (but very naughty) Julian Clary leading the cast, ‘Cinderella’, which opened at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre last night, was always going to be the bawdiest panto on offer this year, but it is also glittery, glamorous and oh so funny. Telling that aged-old story of a beautiful girl victimised by a couple of pug-ugly step-sisters, who then wins the heart of the handsome prince when she is the belle of the ball, only to have to run away on the stroke of midnight, leaving a rather gorgeous shoe behind, the Grand’s retelling stuck to the tale the audience know and love. What it did differently however,…

Fashion-Mommy at the Ballet
Cinderella has always been my fairytale heroine, Sure Sleeping Beauty had got the beauty sleep thing sorted, Rapunzel had great hair, and Snow White was quite a hit with the men (albeit very small ones!), but Cinderella really was inspirational. She came from a broken family, losing her mother at a very young age, and then faced poverty and abuse at the hands of her stepmother and step sisters. Yet, through her beauty, ambition, and with the help of useful friends like her Fairy Godmother (sort of an Alan Sugarplum fairy if you like…) she was able to achieve her life’s ambitions, to wear Vivienne Westwood-esq dresses with glass Manolo’s,…
