The Kardashian Collection arrives at Lipsy

In the week that Kim and Kanye announced their engagement, ensuing maximum amount of column inches to everything and anything involving the couple, those Kardashian ladies unveiled their latest bid for world domination with their first collection for Lipsy.

This has been a much – anticipated collection, especially since a series of suitably glamorous images of the Kim, Khloe and Kourtney had been released showing them wearing some of the key pieces.  The Kardashian name has always been one that is associated with high-octane glamour, and this range is further endorsement of this, with a series of glamorous dresses in lace and animal prints, in bodycon style. One dress in particular had an amazingly positive reaction when I posted it on my blog, this was the gorgeous red lace dress worn by Kim in the campaign, which I believe will actually help to garner Lipsy a completely new audience, due to its grown-up glamour.

Kourtney Kardashian has  commented, “Kim, Khloé and I are always looking for new ways to keep our collection unique, and give our fans around the world fashion-forward pieces.”Kim added:  “The collection is inspired by the stylish women from around the world that I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. This is for those Lipsy girls who have as much fun with fashion as I do.”

The final word on the collection goes to Khloe, who, I have to say is looking incredible in the official shots, putting all her recent heartache behind her. “Whether you are rocking the feathered jacket or one of the leather dresses, there are a million ways to style these pieces, all uniquely stylish,” says Khloe.

X Factor Live Show – First Week Fashion

From the definitive X Factor days of Dannii and Cheryl, watching the outfits has always been a big part of my X Factor viewing. Last year Nicole Scherzinger was consistently amazing in her choices, upstaging her brash co-star Tulisa on a number of occasions. This year, we are set for a different view on fashion with returning judge Sharon Osbourne. Sharon is as cool as hell in my eyes, but she is also 62 and a grandmother, and so will be looking for different things from her X Factor wardrobe.

Also, although she is stylish, she could never be called an icon of style, in the way that Nicole has been wining plaudits. Her wardrobe has rather a gothic feel in acres of black, with just the occasional pieces of monochrome tied in. So how would Sharon fair in the arena of the live shows?

202173-judgesThe first live show saw both ladies turn on the glitz and glamour. Sharon opted against black and instead chose a gorgeous emerald-green shade that contrasted perfectly against her red hair. With long sleeves and a 1980s style silhouette, complete with those Joan Collins shoulder pads, I think this was a good look for Sharon, flattering in both colour and shape. I was actually less impressed with Nicole’s Julian Macdonald choice. This dress just seemed made for someone with a smaller bust. Nicole’s curves made it seem a little out of shape at the front – should that mesh panel really gap so wide? The fringes were described as Gatsby-esque, but to me they said ‘unfinished’.  The hair and make-up looked beautiful, but the dress – I just wasn’t a fan.

On Sunday night both ladies opted for classic black designs. Nicole chose Kristian Aadnevik for the first results show, a classy mixture of black leather and velvet. I loved her messy updo, and the detailing of this dress, deceptively simple on a first look, but with lace paneling on the sides and almost a ladder effect on the back. Fabulous.

Sharon wore a gothically glam black gown, with lace effect sleeves and side paneling. Another good choice from Mrs O.

I don’t think this year is going to be setting music alight, but it may just prove to be a vintage year for fashion.

The Gatsby Girl premiere and shop the trend at Lipsy

The Great Gatsby is turning out to be the most influential fashion event of 2013. The premiere at the Cannes film festival on Friday was a super stylish event which saw the attendees pulling out all the stops in the style stakes. To put it quite simply, the abundance of beautiful looks on the big screen meant that it was simply unthinkable not to make the same amount of effort off-screen. Most fashion critics even commented on how glamorous the normally low-key star, Carey Mulligan looked on the red carpet, with sleek long hair and a slash of red lipstick.

Great Gatsby Premiere stars

Lipsy has some great Gatsby inspired pieces at the moment. Placing emphasis on the beautiful beading that was so important to the trends of the 1920s, but bringing things bang up to date with shorter lengths and strapless bodices, Lipsy have really excelled in creating pieces that will be perfect for addressing this trend now, but also surviving into next season and proving to be a great option come party season.

Take a look at some of my favourite pieces from the Gatsby trend at Lipsy.
