Style icon of the month June -Lily Allen

There was only one choice for style icon of the month for June – beautiful bride and glowing bride-to-be Lily Allen. I have been a fan of Lily’s style since I saw her at Glastonbury wearing a multi-coloured ball gown and hi-top trainers. She had that eclectic mix of vintage and street style that made her look totally original. I was a fan of her Lily Loves collection for New Look (Still have two dresses in my wardrobe), and just thought she was a total one-off, an English eccentric.

Lily’s style has grown over the years, she has developed a penchant for Chanel and for vintage dresses and pieces. She has left the music industry for the time being, and is concentrating on what is turning into a vintage clothing empire, ‘Lucy in Disguise’. With sister Sarah, this month has seen the launch of her vintage inspired collections in Harvey Nichols stores nationwide, with Lily wearing key looks from the collection.

This month has also  seen Lily’s wedding featuring not one, but two, vintage style wedding dresses. The main dress was a beautiful 1920’s style lace creation by french designer Delphine Manivet, whilst the evening bought a medieval style number by Karl Lagerfeld. Both were exquisite in their styling and detail, and I loved the Juliet style veil she wore.

Lily took a honeymoon in Paris, where she covered her bump in classy fashion with a large Chanel bag, and then took in a Louis Vuitton show wearing leopard print. That’s my idea of a honeymoon.

Here are some key looks from Lily’s month.

This Saturday saw the wedding of Lily Allen and Sam Cooper, and the surprise but heart warming news that Lily is more than 12 weeks pregnant.

All eyes were on the dress, as Lily is known as a vintage aficionado, who has here own vintage clothes shop, Lucy in Disguise, that she co-runs with sister Sarah, and has recently launched her own vintage-inspired line to be sold through Harvey Nichols. Lily is also a sometime muse of Karl Lagerfeld of Chanel, so he was another possible designer name in the frame.

As it was, Lily plumped for an exquisite 1920s style dress by French designer Delphine Manivet, that owed something in style to a certain royal wedding dress, with its long sleeves and use of lace. It perfectly framed her neat baby bump, and looked exquisite when worn with a 1920s style headdress that reminded me of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother´s wedding veil from 1923.

This is definitely one of my favourite wedding looks from this year, and with Kate Middleton, and now Lily, opting for such pretty, elegant, but covered-up gowns, you have to ask, is the penchant for strapless wedding dresses over?

Lily and Sarah are coming to Birmingham for Lucy In Disguise launch!

The stylish television event of the year was the Channel 4 documentary ‘Lily Allen – From Riches to Rags’ which focused on Lily Allen  and her sister Sarah Owen as they set up their vintage emporium ‘Lucy In Disguise’. The documentary was fascinating as we watched through the laughter, tears, high and low points as the girls realised their vintage clothing dream. But one thing that was apparent from episode one was that these girls had amazing taste when it came to choosing vintage clothing.

Which is why I  am so excited about the Launch of the new capsule clothing collection from Lucy In Disguise, which is going to be sold through Harvey Nichols stores nationwide.  The 18 piece collection has a vintage feel, but is thoroughly modern and has been christened ‘Treasure box’. Lily and Sarah have worked to create a collection of 1930s style bias cut dresses, cute pieces in leopard prints and an amazing Bettie Page style 1950s swimsuit.  Lily told Vogue magazine  ‘After we’d launched the shop, I think we both felt that we wanted to create vintage styles with more contemporary, clean lines. Sometimes with vintage clothes the femininity can get lost – the market didn’t feel quite perfect, so that’s what we’ve worked on.’

Lily and Sarah are currently on a whistle-stop  tour of launches for the new collection, and here’s where it gets really exciting. On Wednesday 8th June, the girls will be at  Harvey Nichols, The Mailbox, Birmingham to give guests a preview of the complete collection. From 12-3pm guests will enjoy champagne and canapes whilst getting their first proper look at Lucy in Disguise ‘Treasure Box’. Tickets are strictly limited and cost £10.
