Harvey Nichols Birmingham S/S 2013 Fashion Show

The Harvey Nichols seasonal fashion shows have always been an unmissable spectacle, but this year the bar was raised in spectacular fashion. Using the industrial space that was once the Old Post Office in Birmingham’s magnificent Mailbox complex, this show showcased the best of this season’s hot style offerings.

In the past the Harvey Nichols show have been impressive, but somewhat restricted to the actual brands stocked in store. But now, with the click and collect service in place, Harvey Nichols Birmingham can now deliver the best of British design, from Mary Katrantzou, Roksanda Ilincic, Roland Mouret and Christopher Kane. All these designers, and so many more, were represented in a show that was, by equal measure, fast and furious, bright and monochrome, casual and couture. This was a show to truly put Birmingham on the style map.

Here are some of my highlights from a night that was filled with a myriad of fashion treats.

My LPSFW outfit + Win! with Clothing at Tesco.

Last week I was invited to attend London Plus size Fashion Weekend as a guest of Tesco. Of course I said ‘Yes!’ in my loudest voice, and then proceeded to squeal for a good many minutes when they said I would be able to choose an outfit from the Clothing at Tesco site to wear on the day. As a fan of F&F, this was a fantastic opportunity to test drive pieces from the range, although I knew just settling on one outfit wouldn’t be easy.

I knew I wanted to choose a dress, and there were a few that caught the eye, including a fabulous silk feel shirt dress in a vibrant orange shade that I fell in love with. But, in the end, there was only one dress that I could choose. This was the F&F Signature Floral Peplum Dress. This was a dress that clicked so many boxes for me. It had sleeves, it was stretchy, and it was bright and colourful. I loved the digital style floral print that reminded me of a Mary Katrantzou design, and the fact that the peplum wasn’t a full skirted one to add inches, but was a slight, subtle frill on the side of the dress.

I teamed the jacket with a simple navy blazer, that I originally thought was black. It was a perfect match, making this a rather happy accident. This blazer is so versatile, looking as good with jeans as it does over a dress, and yet costs just £16, making it a total bargain. I also added a pair of faux suede shoe boots that looked stylish but were also easy to walk in, a good thing when the nearest station was almost half a mile away.

I absolutely loved my outfit, the dress, in particular, received lots of positive comments and compliments, not the least of which was a compliment from designer and all round girl crush Anna Scholz, who told me she loved my dress and asked where it was from. With the whole outfit costing less than £60 I think this is real proof that you don’t have to spend a fortune to make an impact.
