Introducing: The Old English Company

If I was to list my current passions it would read something like this:-

  1. My family – natch! Even though there are days when I could happily make them disappear Kevin McAllister style.
  2. Olivier Giroud. He’s still my ultimate man crush, even in a Chelsea Shirt. Hubba Hubba indeed!
  3. Pink Gin and tonic – absolutely my new favourite tipple, it tastes like Summer, even though that feels a long way off.
  4. The Long Run – new TV programme starring the amazing Idris Elba that makes me chuckle.
  5. Stationery from The Old English Company which is totally divine.

The Old English Company produce some of the most beautiful, and personal pieces of stationery that basically sings to a stationery addict like me. Their range is made up of exquisite hand lettered goods that are proudly made in England. I love this comment, which I think sums up the uniqueness of their products:-

The art is in the simplicity of our designs. Following no particular calligraphy rules, all of our products are uniquely hand lettered to create stylish, uncomplicated designs with messages that resonate with people.

The calligraphy of the design follows no rules, this means it can range from the cartoonish and modern, to bold and beautiful. It can resemble those magnetic letters that are used by kiddies learning to spell, and also the cool and trendy as impromptu fridge magnets. The monochromatic designs are both stark and stylish. And whilst it is the stationery that initially caught my eye, stationery is not the whole story, not by a long shot.

There are mugs emblazoned with Papa (fab for Father’s Day maybe), and patches that could decorate a cool rucksack (I love ‘She believed She could so she did’ – a fabulous mantra in the sad days of ‘me too.’). I love the prints, that are full of positive, affirmative messages ( I adore the ‘Throw kindness around like confetti’ one.) and the cute enamel pins that give the impression of old school prefect badges.

To celebrate World Stationery Day, The Old English Company has a competition running where you can currently win a complete set of their latest must have product, the planners featured below. To win, simply follow the link here to find entry details.

A Gift of Love from Pen Heaven

These days it is all about technology. Smartphones, Ipads, Apple watches, it seems we use our technology for everything, and that includes using them as our diaries, for our notes, writing blogs, emails and memo’s. And yet, even in these days when it seems that paper is so over, stationery is having a bit of a resurgence. Instagram is full of beautiful images of Notebooks and pens, gorgeous diaries and post-it notes, with #stationery and #stationerygeek being much used hashtags. Maybe we are not quite as modern as we like to think, and still love the feel of paper in our hands when it comes to our notes, our thoughts and our ideas.

With this in mind, Pen Heaven have come up with a beautiful range of gifts that are perfect for those who love the traditional written word. The company, founded in 2008, offer a comprehensive range of writing instruments and leather journals offering in-house engraving and embossing. This season, with Valentine’s Day firmly in mind, they have put together a gorgeous range of products that include the red leather Napoli journal that retails at £32.99 and is just stunning.

For someone who loves to write, this is the perfect gift. For a start, it is beautifully made, in soft textured leather from Italy. The size of the book (Size: 13cm x 17cm) means that it is not too big, you could easily carry this in a large handbag or tote bag – useful if you are recording your innermost thoughts in it, or if you need to keep a notebook handy for blog thoughts or ideas. The cover has a gold leaf embossed heart on the flap, and the gold theme continues with gold gilded paper – a real touch of luxury.

The pages are superb quality, in Acid free plain paper. This could mean that as well as a journal or a notebook, this could also work as a small sketchpad. The tie ribbon fastening keeps your thoughts safe from sight and gives the book a very vintage, traditional feel. And, if you are giving this as a gift, you could, of course, write a message of love on the first page, adding to the special feel to what is already a really beautiful gift.
