Travel Focus UK: Dorset
One of the most beautiful and spectacular places in the UK is the county of Dorset, And whilst we may not all be able to afford to live in the millionaires playground that is Sandbanks, the coastal towns of the Jurassic coast are definitely worth a thought if you are considering a late Summer break with South coast UK caravan parks being a really popular choice for holidaymakers, especially those with young families.
Dorset offers plenty in the way of accommodation for holiday makers, perfect for both family holidays and romantic breaks for couples. There are holiday camps in Poole and Weymouth, cottages available for rent from Wyke Dorset Cottages and hotels for those who want their every need catered for, and try to avoid washing up when they are on their jollies.
Jurassic Coastline
So what is it that makes Dorset so special? Well first we have to talk about that Jurassic coastline, that 96 miles of coast that stretches from Devon to Dorset and is made up of of Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous cliffs, and is a World Heritage Site. The Jurassic coast is not just a thing of outstanding beauty, for those who love the idea of ancient history and paleontology, the beaches of Lyme Regis are just alive with fossils and was brought to life vividly in the iconic ‘French Lieutenant’s Woman’ by John Fowles, which is as much a love story to Dorset as it is a general love story.
Weymouth
If you are looking for a perfect beach holiday, then you really do need to head to Weymouth, a jewel in the Dorset crown. It is also a lovely traditional seaside town, complete with golden sands, wonderful Georgian architecture along the esplanade and all those signs of seaside life of days gone by, the seaside donkey rides and Punch & Judy shows.
Broadchurch? You mean West Bay.
Broadchurch has been one of the biggest TV hits of recent years, and many people totally fell in love with the place where it was filmed. But if you look for Broadchurch on a map you will be looking for a long time, because Broadchurch is actually West Bay.
West Bay is stunning, with those famous cliffs that played such a part in the TV series as a backdrop to a white sandy beach. It is a place for an idyllic Summer holiday, certainly with the wonderful sunshine we have been enjoying, and with more on the way it is definitely a contender when it comes to the perfect place to enjoy the sun.
