What Makes A Perfect Movie Night In?

Even though, although certainly not by choice, staying in is the new going out, that doesn’t mean that you can’t make your family movie night, or movie date night special. Just through your choice of film, your choice of food and snacks, or even the way you view, you can make a night in perfectly enjoyable.

Giff Gaff, who are not only the sponsors of ITV’s The Voice, but are also a huge destination for refurbished mobile phones have been challenging people to describe their best night in. This could involve your favourite television programme or music, as you play records or stream music on a budget or hifi audio system, watching a box set or bingeing on Netflix.

Here are some of the things that I think make a good movie night, even without a lock down.

Dim the lights and get off Twitter

The best way to enjoy a film is to really lose yourself in it, and you can’t do that if you are also tweeting about it at the same time. So, you need to turn off your technology, dim the lights in the living room, and dive into the fantasy world of film. One creative way to set the mood for film nights is to buy some cheap tealights and watch it by candlelight. This also gives the room warmth and a nice orange glow.

Choose Your Film Wisely

At the moment, times are very hard, so when I have been choosing my films, I have been looking for escapism, nostalgia and triumphs of life over adversity, rather than television or movies that are more downbeat and miserable. Films that I have chosen have included Stan and Ollie, The Second Best Marigold Hotel and The Theory of Everything, all pleasant and update in their stories. I have also indulged in Ghostbusters, Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears and lots of Agatha Christie.

Some new cinema releases are currently available on Sky Box Office, so you could choose a brand new movie that you wanted to see at the Cinema. We chose Knives Out last week, a film we missed at the cinema, and just loved it.

What About Your Snacks and Food?

Food is a massive part of a the best movie nights, whether you go for traditional snacks like popcorn, crisps and nachos, or if you opt for a good old fashioned, classic takeaway. If you are opting for snacks, you could pimp up your snacks by opting for Posh Corn like Joe Sephs, if you go for a takeaway, Just Eat is still delivering with social distancing measures in place so you can still enjoy an odd treat.

I think Pizza is the best movie food if I’m honest…

Share With the Extended Family

I love going to the cinema with my sister, we usually go to early morning showings, and it is something that I really miss. You could try to watch a movie simultaneously and then chat about it during your next call or Facetime, Make it another family occasion, even if you can’t physically be together.
