12 Angry Men – Tense, Taut and Utterly Brilliant
It seems an open and shut case. A young black boy, just 16, kills his abusive father after one too many beatings. A strong witness is positive he heard the boy say he was going to kill just before the father was fatally stabbed. Another witness saw the stabbing and then saw the boy flee. An open and shut case. So why does Juror 8 insist that the boy could be not guilty and refuse to give a verdict that would send the defendent to the electric chair? This is the premise of 12 Angry Men, a classic Henry Fonda film turned into a magnificent piece of claustrophobic, thought provoking…

Interviewing Gloria Hunniford for Tombola Times
Blogging brings so many weird and wonderful opportunities, and none more so than the chance to interview wonderful people. Recently I was asked to submit an interview for Gloria Hunniford, currently one of the leading lights on Loose Women, but with a rich and varied career spanning more than 50 years. I’m a great fan of Gloria as I believe she really bucks the trend when it comes to older women on television. In the days when 40+ presenters are often replaced by someone younger and prettier, Gloria goes from strength to strength and is a real example of talent and substance outlasting fashionable fad presenters. The Little black dress makes a triumphant return at Cannes
The Cannes festival continues and I continue to be blown away by the beauty of many of the looks on display. Forget the excessive amounts of flesh that we seem to be bombarded with lately, the likes of Emma Stone, Sienna Miller, Cate Blanchett, Naomi Watts and Lupita Nyong’u have decided to show us what a movie star really looks like, rather than opting for Cher’s Bob Mackie cast-offs. It is both a breathe of fresh air, and a visual treat. Glamour at its best in a beautiful setting. One thing I have noticed is that classic, glamorous black gowns seem to be making a Cannes comeback. Yes, there have…

Mix up the Magic on Playdates
Petits Filous are very popular in my house, with both my little boy and myself being a huge fan of them as an after dinner treat. Recently they have launched a new variety which combines two flavours in one pot. The new variety is called the Magic Square Range and we have been adding these to our after school playdates at our local park. Magic Squares come in two flavours, strawberry & vanilla and raspberry & vanilla, and both are delicious and still full of calcium and vitamin d, making them feel like a real sweet treat, but with goodness that children need in their balanced diet. The flavours are…

Friday Fashion- Going Green with High Street Outlet
Recently, all my posts concerning adding colour to your wardrobe have been concerned with my favourite shade – yellow. But I genuinely love most colours, and find neutrals to be something I tend to avoid. Today I am continuing my series of great finds from High Street Outlet with a Per Una dress in the most vibrant shade of green. The Ex Per Una green floral wrap style dress is a lovely soft, stretch dress which is described as ‘a throw on and look lovely dress.’ I can only agree. The nature of the dress (no ironing – total result!) means that is really is the sort of dress you…
