A velvet obsession
When it comes to Christmas 2016, the main fashion trend that we will remember is how luxurious velvet made quite a comeback. It is always a fabulous fabric for Christmas, with its roots in the stunning red velvet capes that we imagine Victorian children wearing. Princess Diana, Kate Middleton, Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lawrence and Kim Kardashian have all fell under a velvet spell, whilst just last week Kate Moss opted for classic black velvet at the British Fashion Awards. Velvet is having a beautiful, fashion moment.
I’ve been having my own velvet moments this Christmas. It is a fabric that I always reach for as soon as the Christmas Tree makes an appearance, because, as well as the fact that it looks great, it is also warm, which is a real positive when you are walking (because taxis are so expensive at this time of year.) Another plus point for me is that you tend not to need to iron velvet – especially if it is the creased/crushed variety. Velvet could be in the form of a head to toe slinky dress, or an accessory – a jacket straight from the 1970s, a clutch bag which has ‘bags of style’, even a retro Alice band to create a Bardot style.

Get the Velvet Look
There are so many brilliant velvet pieces around this season. My top picks are the beautiful chartreuse dress from M&S which is just so incredibly beautiful, and the Archive by Alexa Wade boots, these have a gorgeous, androgynous feel to them, like Bowie as Ziggy Stardust, and so Alexa too.
Take a look at my velvet edit, do you have a favourite piece?

I have a number of velvet items that are wardrobe staples for me: black velvet trousers, a jacket and a red dress.

What a lovely collection of items, sadly I am just not a fan of the way velvet feels so will have to skip this trend!

I love your choice of items, particularly your red dress! I know a lot of people hate the way velvet feels, but I like it!

I love velvet. As a teen I had a beautiful deep purple velvet crop top. So glad to see it’s made a comeback.
