Jane Eyre At The Rep, Birmingham – Delicious Gothic Melodrama
You have to feel for Jane Eyre, one of the most unlucky heroines in classic literature. Her life was one of low after low, orphaned soon after birth, hated by the family who took her in but saw her as a cuckoo in the nest, sent away to a school where she was treated brutally, losing her best friend to consumption and ill treatment, and when she finally breaks out as a governess and falls in love with her boss, the mysterious, and let’s be honest, rather strange Mr Rochester, her plans for true love are thwarted by the maniacal tendencies of the first Mrs Rochester, not so safely locked…

New Yorker Beer Launch At Nosh And Quaff
I’ve been enjoying a late Summer break over the past week, making the most of the last of Summer in Wales, but, before I went away I enjoyed a lovely evening of food and drink at Nosh and Quaff in Birmingham. This was for the launch of New Yorker Beer, a lager that is currently being served exclusively in Birmingham at this venue. Although beer is not usually my tipple of choice, I have to say the launch was very enjoyable. Nosh and Quaff is a well known and much loved Birmingham City Centre eatery, with a catchphrase that reflects its most famous dish (lobster) encouraging its guests to ‘get…

The Canal House is launched in Birmingham
Last week saw the revitalising of a legendary Birmingham venue, when The Canal House launched in the old James Brindley pub. The James Brindley had been a Birmingham landmark in the 1990s, but had, in recent times become a bit of an eyesore on the skyline, lying empty for the past 8 years. Now, as The Canal House, it looks set to bring those glory days back, as it is once again a beautiful venue, with great food and cocktails. #wiwt #ootd💗 #latergram. For the launch if @thecanalhouseuk #thesecretsout #jamesbrindley Can’t believe I needed a coat in August! Got the trusty #burberry out. Skirt @tkmaxx top @dorothyperkins #1950sstyle fugly shoes…

Work+Play at Malmaison – A Girly Night In
Last week I was invited to enjoy a girly night of food, pampering and cocktails at the very stylish Malmaison. It was strictly ladies only as we were treated to manicures, blow dries, makeovers and arm massages, whilst the prosecco flowed and food was served in the guise of the new Malmaison menu. If all this wasn’t bliss enough, we also had the chance to create a special cocktail that matched the colour of our nail polish. Malmaison is home to the lovely La Petit Spa, a haven in the heart of the city where you can enjoy full spa treatments, as well as manicures, pedicures and make overs. On…

Fashion With A Heart – Shoes By Shaherazad
Fashion is often considered to be vacuous, to be all about appearance with very little substance behind it. But sometimes you come across a brand that is aiming to change lives too. Shoes by Shaherazad is doing just that, one step at a time. The ethos of the brand, the brainchild of Shaherazad Umbreen, is all about empowering women through fashion, both by creating beautiful and elegant heels that can be worn for 18 hours as women work and frankly kick ass without having to sacrifice their femininity and style, but the brand also seeks to empower women and girls living in poverty through the ‘Solidarity by Shaherazad’ programme. The…
