Style Icon of the month – Lana Del Rey
Maybe she is a recreation, with newly inflated lips and a retro image. Frankly I don’t care. She has the most amazing voice and in Video Games, one of the best songs and videos of the year. She also has truly incredible personal style. I am of course talking about Lana Del Rey, who is my style icon for the month of November. Lana has an old-fashioned film starlet feel. Huge eyes and the most talked about lips of the moment are teamed with Brigitte Bardot/Claudia Cardinale lustrous hair. And then there’s the clothes. Lana describes herself as a ‘gangsta Nancy Sinatra’ and could well be her best judge. Her…

Big Style Crush – Florence Welch
She’s a muse to Karl Lagerfeld, cites 1970s drag queen troop ‘The Cockettes‘ as a fashion influence and has described her style as ‘Lady of Shallot meets Ophelia.’ Is it any wonder that at the moment I am totally besotted by the wardrobe and pure style masterclass that is Florence Welch? The Titian haired Florence and the Machine songstress is an ethereal, alabaster beauty, a Lizzie Siddall for the 21st Century. And whilst promoting her latest album, ‘The Ceremonials‘ she has adopted a look that has taken in influence from my favourite Art Deco era. Her look is a covered up look, Isadora Duncan style scarves and sleeves, acres of…

MTV EMA’S – The best looks.
Sunday saw the MTV European Music Awards. Lady divas were out in force with Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Jessie J and Katy B all in attendance. But, as seems to be usual from the MTV fright shows, seriously good fashion looks were a bit thin on the ground. Lady Gaga looked like she’d lost her heart to a starship trouper in futuristic Paco Rabanne,Katy Perry came as a bad Frenchie from Grease lookalike complete with kitsch 50s outfit and pink hair, whilst Jennifer Metcalfe wore Olivia Newton John’s bad girl trousers from the same film. Still, there were a few looks worth checking out again, and here they are. Jessie…

X Factor Fashion – Kelly’s back to turn up the heat.
This was a pretty special week even by X Factor standards. Kelly Rowland was back after recovering from the devastating illness that had left her with the ‘worst pretending to be ill’ voice ever. Frankie Cocozza was back to fight another week, and Louis and Gary were most definitely not enjoying each others company. Not all sunshine and smiles, that’s for sure. But this was a vintage week for X Factor style. And with Florence Welch as the amazing musical guest wearing a glorious Art Deco style design, and Mischa B looking fierce in an Oasis tailcoat, this was the best fashion display yet from this series. First Up – Kelly…

Style Icon of the Month- Solange Knowles
She’s Beyoncé’s little sister, but has a style all of her own, and is now emerging as the one to watch in the fashion stakes. This month Solange Knowles was my standout choice for icon of the month for her interesting mix of fabrics, styles and colours that make her hypnotically watchable, and totally unforgettable. Solange has a gloriously groomed look that echoes 1970s Diana Ross crossed with 50s icon Dorothy Dandridge. She flashes her wondrous legs in a series of showstopping dresses that just scream 1970s chic, but also looks amazing when she shows how to make androgyny a totally feminine look by adding heels and a…
