Harvey Nichols hosts a secret fashion show
Last Wednesday saw a very special, clandestine fashion show held in Birmingham. Harvey Nichols, based in Birmingham’s Mailbox, is known for bringing style and panache to their shows. The A/W 2013/4 show was a large and lavish affair, with more than 600 attendees. But current renovation work at the Mailbox necessitated a rethink, and the Harvey Nicks team did not disappoint. Moving on from the grand spectacle of last year, we were treated to an intimate affair that was quite literally the hottest ticket in town. Top secret, there were no tweets or posts until the very day, and 600 guests were replaced by a guest list of just 120 – consisting of celebrities, valued customers, and a few invited bloggers. The venue was also a secret, with guests literally being escorted to the surprise venue, a disused building on John Bright Street that had a cool industrial New York air, especially with the soft lighting and neon signs.
And, of course, there was the clothes…
Birmingham Harvey Nichols is one of the smaller boutique stores in the HN family at present, but is able to offer the full Harvey Nichols collection. This full collection was what the audience lapped up, with the cream of the fashion world on display. Peter Pilotto, Dries Van Noten, Mary Katrantzou, Victoria Beckham, Markus Lupfer, Thakoon, Roksanda Ilincic, Proenza Schouler and JW Anderson – it was like a roll call of all that is fresh and vibrant in fashion in the 21st Century. Add in classic pieces from Givenchy, Diane Von Furstenberg and Roland Mouret, and you have one seriously hot show.
Here are just a few of the key looks.
Of course, following on from the fashion, there was an after show party, this started with more Champagne and goody bags back at the Mailbox store, and then an after- after show party at Malmaison. Unfortunately, being a school night, I didn’t do the second party, but did enjoy a little tipple and chat with my fave bloggers back at the store.
With thanks to Lisa Piddington and the Harvey Nichols team for the invite and hospitality
