Lyst – It’s pretty addictive.

lyst tomford“Millions of products, curated by you from the world’s most stylish brands and stores.” Welcome to the wonderfully stylish world of Lyst, a fashion concept that could have come straight from the dreams of Miranda Priestley, it is that chic. Lyst is a way of finding the fashion you love, keeping all in one place, and making sure you get it for the best price. Interested? Then read on.

Lyst is, as you may have already guessed, a fashion wishlist site where you can browse designers and brands, find items you love, and then add them to your own wishlists that you have created. The homepage gives you different inspirational sections that range from what is currently trending on Lyst, to outfits for Summer weddings. It currently has an amazing section featuring 42 wedding dresses you can wear again, which I think is pretty amazing (I wouldn’t be able to wear mine again unless I went to a fancy dress party – as a bride!). The home page also gives you access to new and exclusive ranges before they actually hit stores – a special MZ Wallace accessories selection is a recent exclusive.

Signing up is really easy, totally free, and then becomes increasingly addictive. You need a few details (email, user name, make a password), and then you go through the designers so that Lyst can get an idea of your preferences. There are a mixture of designer names like Gucci, Balmain, Alexander McQueen etc, High Street faves Zara, H&M, Topshop, and also department stores like Macys and Selfridges.

Lyst is a fashion lovers paradise. I added Valentino to my favourites and discovered this Lyst alone contained 4,695 items. Wow!

I’m going on holiday in a couple of weeks so I decided to create a Summer holiday wishlist with ideas and pieces that I would love to be packing in my suitcase. I’m going to Menorca, and literally live in floaty maxi dresses and flat, pretty sandals. I love Jessica Alba’s Summer style and this is the inspiration for the outfits I have put together from my holiday ‘wish-lyst’.

I have based my wish-lists around two amazing pairs of sandals from Saint Laurent. These are not strictly sandals for the beach, I think they could easily take you around the pool, but look just as good at the pool bar too. The maxi dresses I love are just as versatile – I would wear them out for a meal in the harbour, and then use them as a beach cover up the next day. The fun comes from the choice of bags. I’m having a bit of a flamingo moment currently, so it is no surprise that I fell for the Kate Spade bag, while the Banana Republic straw beach bag is a simple design classic.

I guess that’s why they call it the blues.

With Lyst letting you set up sales alerts, and finding that must have item that you can no longer find in store, it really is a site that fashion lovers should have bookmarked. I love using it and hope you will too.

Harvey Nichols hosts a secret fashion show

A secret destination for a very special show

Last Wednesday saw a very special, clandestine fashion show held in Birmingham. Harvey Nichols, based in Birmingham’s Mailbox, is known for bringing style and panache to their shows. The A/W 2013/4 show was a large and lavish affair, with more than 600 attendees. But current renovation work at the Mailbox necessitated a rethink, and the Harvey Nicks team did not disappoint. Moving on from the grand spectacle of last year, we were treated to an intimate affair that was quite literally the hottest ticket in town. Top secret, there were no tweets or posts until the very day, and 600 guests were replaced by a guest list of just 120 – consisting of celebrities, valued customers, and a few invited bloggers. The venue was also a secret, with guests literally being escorted to the surprise venue, a disused building on John Bright Street that had a cool industrial New York air, especially with the soft lighting and neon signs.

And, of course, there was the clothes…

Birmingham Harvey Nichols is one of the smaller boutique stores in the HN family at present, but is able to offer the full Harvey Nichols collection. This full collection was what the audience lapped up, with the cream of the fashion world on display.  Peter Pilotto, Dries Van Noten, Mary Katrantzou, Victoria Beckham, Markus Lupfer, Thakoon, Roksanda Ilincic, Proenza Schouler and JW Anderson – it was like a roll call of all that is fresh and vibrant in fashion in the 21st Century. Add in classic pieces from Givenchy, Diane Von Furstenberg and Roland Mouret, and you have one seriously hot show.

Here are just a few of the key looks.

The setting.

Of course, following on from the fashion, there was an after show party, this started with more Champagne and goody bags back at the Mailbox store, and then an after- after show party at Malmaison. Unfortunately, being a school night, I didn’t do the second party, but did enjoy a little tipple and chat with my fave bloggers back at the store.

Happy 10th Birthday Selfridges Birmingham

It is hard to believe, But the iconic Selfridges store in Birmingham celebrated its 10th birthday this week. And, of course, being Selfridges, it celebrated with a seriously stylish party, complete with mouth-watering cocktails and canapes, and some seriously quirky entertainment.

It is hard to even imagine Birmingham without the stunning Selfridges Building, as much a part of the city skyline as The Rotunda, The BT Tower or St Martin’s in the Bullring. The Moet Bar on the top floor has become a real destination, and so was the perfect setting for the birthday celebrations. General manager Vicki Cain gave a lovely speech to kick off proceedings detailing some exciting new developments for the store, and then guests were treated to a special performance by Operatic drag queen Le Gateau Chocolat, who had a powerful voice and a great line in black prom dresses!

With Mojitos served rustic style in mini glass jars and stripy retro straws, Cosmos and Champers, delicious mini ice cream cones and a bar brimming with Oysters, Selfridges threw a party their way, and completed the night by gifting all guests a stunning Diptyque candle.
