How To Choose A Hairstyle For Your Beauty Type

Our hair is often referred to as our crowning glory, and certainly the style we choose to wear it in can make a great difference to the way we look. For me personally, long hair is something that I have had for many years, after dabbling in both a short, and bobbed length. I find long hair to be very versatile, and despite ideas to the contrary, also easier to work with – on those days when we just can’t be bothered, we can tie it up in a neat pony tail and just forget about it.

This post is about styles that you could adopt if you choose to wear your hair long, and how they can suit specific beauty types.

A Ponytail

A ponytail is a hair classic, and is perfect for those with thick, bouncy hair. A 1950’s ponytail suits those who love a retro look when it comes to their fashion and beauty – think Olivia Newton John as Sandy in Grease, or the all American girl style of Taylor Swift. However, a ponytail can also be very glamorous as a slicked back, perfectly straight style. This can be teamed with a smoky black eye and a red lip for the sort of look sported by the model’s in Robert Palmer’s classic ‘Addicted to Love’ video.

Hair Extensions

Of course, these days, we do not have to wait for our hair to grow in order to have a long locked look. Hair extensions allow us to add length, or thickness, and to totally change our look. Think of the glossy glamorous extensions added by the likes of Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez for specific events. You can add an extra long ponytail in the style of Ariana Grande, or mermaid style locks like those sported by Cheryl Cole. If you opt for hair extensions, choose something from a reputable company like violahairextensions.co.uk who use 100% human hair, in order to ensure the look is completely stunning and natural looking, from root to tip.

Hollywood Waves

One of the most famous long hair styles is the peekaboo look sported by Veronica Lake in the 1940’s. This sultry style was so copied it caused problems for women doing war work in the factories, as it got caught in machinery, leading to requests for Veronica to change her trademark style. She did, but that has not stopped the look being copied endlessly since, by the likes of Kim Basinger in LA Confidential, and actress Scarlett Johansson and supermodel Kate Moss. This is a style that definitely suits a glamour puss – it is high maintenance, and high octane glamour. If you are never seen without red nails and red lips, this is one for you.

Beachy Waves

This is the key style for the women who likes the natural beauty, barely there look. Beachy waves, of the kind sported by surfer girls look great, and provided that the hair is kept in good condition, this is a style that is low maintenance and actually looks better when it is ruffled and messy and a little bit windswept, perfect for those who are always on the go, and for whom make up is a little bronzer and a chapstick.
