Low Cost Bedroom Decor Ideas
As the cost of living crisis continues to exert its grip, and with mortgage rises about to get even worse, the lack of disposable income continues to be a real problem for those who are trying to update and improve their home. It has to be said that just because we can’t afford to replace things, it doesn’t mean that things don’t need replacing, and this is certainly true for our home furnishings and appliances. Things still break, wear and tear is still a problem, our kids still grow out of things, non of these facts change, and so what this actually means is that we are, more than ever, looking out for true bargains that will hopefully do a job, whilst lasting for years.
There can be many reasons why you need to invest in new furniture and household appliances. This can be due to moving house, or even moving into your first home. It can be linked to your growing family – for instance you may need a bigger sofa or dining table, or your toddler may now need a much bigger child’s bed, fortunately, there are ways to buy those much needed essentials without breaking the bank.
A new bed – try an Ottoman Bed
If you are looking for new beds, perhaps because yours has seen better days, or you are looking to house a relative in your guest room, or even for your growing child, an Ottoman bed could be a very practical, and affordable solution. Bed specialists Bedstar have recently started to stock a budget range of Ottoman beds that start from as little as £269. Ottoman beds are brilliant if you are also looking for some affordable storage as they combine a very comfortable bed with under the bed storage which can double as anything from a toy box to storage for clothing, shoes and bedding. This makes the bed multi functional, and is also brilliant if you are looking for space saving solutions.
Ottoman beds are brilliant for those moving into their first time home who may not have a wardrobe or storage solutions available when they first move in. We certainly need a bed to sleep in – a wardrobe can wait, and an Ottoman bed means that we can wait just a little bit longer whilst we save for wardrobes and chest of drawers.
Bedroom Furniture
Other items of bedroom furniture can also be picked up cheaply at a range of places. You need to look out for sales, not just end of season sales, but also closing down sales, or end of line sales where there may be just one item left so it is knocked down to a rock bottom price. There are also places that do house clearances where you can pick up very good quality second hand furniture that can either be left as it is (mid century style is very popular right now) or it can be up cycled in the trendy shabby chic style. This requires thinking outside the box – what could the item be, rather than what it is now. Up cycling is becoming increasingly popular as it allows you to create something unique and perfect for your home, completely in your style.
In addition to up cycled pieces, places like Ikea have budget ranges for bedrooms that look stylish and modern, and actually appear to be far more expensive than they have actually cost.
Charity Shops
Charity shops are just brilliant when it comes to finding unusual pieces for your home at budget prices. Charities like St Giles Hospice, Shelter and The British Heart Foundation all have shops that are actually dedicated to the selling of furniture and home wares – selling everything from complete dining room sets, to three piece suites.
These shops are definitely worth a look if you are trying to buy to a strict budget, you can find some absolute gems when it comes to furniture, and also find gorgeous pieces with which to add those finishing touches – mirrors, prints, curtains and cushions can all be picked up in brilliant condition.
Charity shops are another place to look if you are handy with a sewing machine and fancy a touch of upcycling – curtains can be transformed into cushions, or covers for dining room chairs, and can be much cheaper than buying from a dedicated textiles company. This can really work if you are hoping to add a vintage, chintz look to a room.
Ultimately times are tough, but we can still use our imagination and our research skills to create really beautiful rooms in our homes that have all the style, but with a much lower cost.
