Oscars 2018 – The Best Looks

Last night saw the Academy Awards, aka The Oscars awarded. Hollywood’s most glitziest night of the year was also the 90th anniversary of the awards, and, in true style, Tinseltown’s finest pulled out all the stops when it came to exquisite celebrity dresses.

The winner of the first award, Janet Gaynor, was not renowned as a fashion plate, despite her later marriage to costume designer Adrian, and the same can be said for last night’s best actress, the formidable Frances Dormand, but there were some stellar looks on the red carpet, with a distinct lack of little black dresses after the sea at the BAFTAS and Golden Globes.

There were trends though. White and nude shades seemed to foretell a coming of Spring and were very popular, with Mary J Blige and Margot Robbie leading the way. Bright colour also made an impact. My choice of best dressed, Nicole Kidman, looked stunning in cobalt, whilst Greta Gerwig shone in sunshine yellow.

And then there were metallics. Jennifer Lawrence, and the sadly overlooked Wonder Woman Gal Gadot both looked a million dollars in sparkling frocks, and Lupita Nyong’o once again showed why she is considered one of Hollywood’s most beautiful and best dressed.
