Prabal Gurung – it’s sheer love!

Don’t mind admitting I just love Prabal Gurung. This was the one show during New York fashion show that I was over-excited about, and the shots of SJP wearing one of Prabal’s designs whilst on the promotional trail for ‘I don’t know how she does it’, just further wetted the appetite.

I am so glad to say I was not disappointed.  This was one very sexy collection. Full of sheer panels, on sleeves, on skirts and on hips, vibrant colours like the purple quality street shades used on one of the most showstopping of dresses, and with flirty, feminine shapes with bell sleeves and nipped in waists, there was just so much to love in this Spring/Summer 2012 collection.

The sheer panel dresses were a perfect cocktail hour look. The purple in particular made the shoulders into an erogenous zone and I think it would look just amazing on Gwyneth Paltrow. I  loved that the lengths weren’t super short, but still offered flashes of leg.  Another dress (pictured above) reminded me of the the Alexander McQueen dress modelled by Kate Moss at the Fashion Relief for Haiti show.

This is such a Summery collection. The watered silk splash prints are fresh and pretty and ultimately very wearable. I loved the handkerchief edging to the silk skirt which had a Riviera feel to it. I would love to see fresh beauties like Kiera Knightley and Carey Mulligan wearing these next season. The silhouettes make these clothes extremely flattering for a whole host of figures and shapes, and I can see this being a popular collection amongst the fashion glitterati.

But there were also pieces that screamed of a more grown up glamour. Case in point being the black  and sheer lace up design worn by Jourdan Dunn. This was a real ‘after dark’ look that was dramatic and bordered on slightly vampish gothic. Imagine it with a slash of red lips.

Favourite pieces? The quality street dress just shimmered…all I could think was I would love to see Duchess Kate in this gown…or maybe her Hollywood Doppelganger Anne Hathaway. I also adore the white dress that couldn’t be further away from bridal if it tried. Imagine Mila Kunis choosing this for her Oscar dress this year, she would be top of every best dressed list.
