Preparing for the Chill with Esprit
January. I have to be honest, it’s my least favourite month of the year. The one that replaces the Christmas glow, glitter and glamour with dark, cold weather and a decidedly chilly air. This month is proving to be the norm rather than the exception. By the end of the week we could be looking at sleet and snow across most of the UK, and those sparkly days of December seem an awful long way away. It’s time to dig out those Winter Woollies.
The thing about dressing when the weather turns bad is that style often goes out of the window. It’s all about those chunky layers, puffa style coats, Wellington boots, and basically dressing like Scott of Antarctica getting ready to leave the tent. But it doesn’t have to be like that. We can maintain our style whilst keeping warm and snug, and the current collection from Esprit certainly proves that.
Esprit have been applying a few of their own rules to Winter dressing that ensure that your look could take you just about anywhere in style. If you follow these rules, you can be sure of a look that is both sartorially acceptable and warm. Totally win/win.
- If you have to wear a cardigan, take your tips from Chanel.
Chanel showed that wrapping up and adding layers could be the height of elegance. Esprit have added Chanel style cardigans and jackets to their collection, so all you need to do is add a string of pearls for your own iconic look.
2. If you are wearing a jumper, take your tips from Jane Birkin
A jumper and skinny jeans is a no brainer, but you can gain extra style points by taking your tips from Jane Birken and her love of Breton Style (think also Alexa Chung and Kate Moss). A stripe is a classic and also works well with a denim skirt or Matelot style with wide legged trousers.
3. Add shine to your accessories.
When the weather is cold, you may reach for a scarf or a hat. Why not make these the perfect way to add some sparkle to your look?
What will you be reaching for when the temperatures drop?

I love the beaded hat. You are very right! Style seems to get left behind with autumn… it’s time I took your advice. Great post!

i love this so much, i’m a big cardigan wearer – maybe it’s to do with age haha but i love being able to layer up – at least if you get too hot you can peel back the layers! jumpers always feel too bulky
