Reviewed – The Salamander Eco Cotton dress from Gudrun Sjoden

When we look at fabrics that are suitable for summer dresses, we seem to be naturally drawn to cool linens and cotton. I’m not a real fan of linen – I love the look on everyone else, but on myself I always look and feel like I’ve slept in my clothes. But cotton is another story, the practical thin layer that keeps us cool and avoids those lived in creases. The Salamander Eco Cotton dress from Gudrun Sjoden is one of those perfect summer pieces in eco cotton.

It is no secret to readers of Fashion-Mommy that I am a huge fan of Gudrun Sjoden, the vibrant prints, unique designs and great quality fabrics all appeal to the part of me that likes my wardrobe to earn its keep. When I was asked if I would like to review a piece from Gudrun’s high Summer collection whilst enjoying my holiday in Menorca, I knew that the Salamander Dress was totally the one that I had to choose…and having spotting this little fellow on the wall of one of the shops in Cala En Bosch Marina, I was proved right.

The Salamander dress is a loose tunic style dress that has a pull string fastening that gives it an empire line style. It has a v neckline and the sleeves are slightly square – almost batwing in style. The dress sits nicely on the knees, and is in thin eco cotton, but with a print that ensures the dress is not transparent. This is a dress that is made for sunny lazy days and holidays.

I love how relaxed this dress is, it is a lovely daytime piece. I popped this in my suitcase and found it was the dress I grabbed to go down to breakfast in our hotel (I’m not a fan of flashing the flesh at the breakfast table). I used it as a cover up when the sun got too fierce as it looked great layered over swimwear. It was also the item I turned to for a trip on a glass bottomed boat. It was perfect because it was a little breezy on top deck, so the sleeves and the length of the skirt offered some protection. In short, this is a piece you could wear anytime and anywhere.
