Selfridges Destination Christmas – The Emporium arrives in Birmingham
Last Thursday was definitely a red-letter day for lovers of all things Selfridges and all things Christmas. For the first time ever, Selfridges Birmingham opened a dedicated Christmas Emporium. Jam packed to the rafters with all things festive, including the most varieties of crackers I have ever seen under one roof, the Selfridges Destination Christmas Emporium is enough to make Ebenezer Scrooge dispense with the ‘humbug’ and reach for the Yule log – it is just so seasonably fabulous.
I was invited along to check out the emporium just before it opened to the public, and this meant a real treat. Prosecco and Christmas foodie treats for breakfast was the perfect start to the day, with a special presentation of some of the locally produced Christmas foods that will be stocked in the food hall this season. I was completely enamored with the marzipan vegetables, they tasted divine and would be such a talking point – particularly the perfectly glazed Brussel sprouts. This is the perfect way to get your five a day (ahem!).
The Emporium is also home to a truly beautiful range of baubles, decorations and Christmas trees that range from modern fun to traditional fair. Highlights for me were the snowmen advent candles – a real bargain at less than £10, and the gorgeous range of fairies and tree toppers . I love the fact that everything now comes in an array of colours and is not merely limited to reds, gold and green, even though those colours are there too.
And then there were crackers! An important part of every Christmas dinner table, Selfridges has an enormous range of crackers that range from make-them-yourself kits, to beautiful ornate and metallic options. There are Twister crackers, which would be enormous fun after a slap-up lunch, Cluedo crackers, and also crackers that would appeal to both the young, and the young at heart.
You should be able to find everything you need at Selfridges this Christmas, but just in case you don’t, Santa’s little helpers, the ‘Elfridges’ will be on hand to address your every need.
