Reviewed – Caviar Treatments from Skin Chemists

“My father was a Chemist and member of the Pharmacology Society of Great Britain graduating in 1958. In the 1990’s while I was working with him making a new formulation, we were talking about what makes a great formulation. He said to me, “Richard, when we’re making a skin treatment, you need to make it with passion, to make it with love, and make it knowing that your treatment is going to help many, many people.”

– Richard Walker, Founder & Managing Director

At the end of last year, I was introduced to the work of Skin Chemists, a company who are continually break barriers when it comes to creating effective and revolutionary skin care scientifically. I was sent a couple of products to test drive on my skin, skin which was being ravaged by a combination of illness, Christmas over indulgence and Winter weather and environmental issues. I have now been using the products for almost two months and I have been very impressed with the results and the formulations.

Caviar Eye Serum

The Caviar Eye Serum is a product designed to ‘brighten, smooth and rejuvenate’ the delicate area around the eyes. I often work into the night and so dark shadows are a bit of an occupational hazard, so I was interested to see if there would be any effect.

I used the serum both morning and night, as often as I could, although the morning application sometimes got missed if I was running late. I cleansed and dried my skin before applying the serum, which comes in a very attractive, pump action bottle allowing you to get the right amount of serum for the eye area without waste.

The serum contains caviar extract, a nutritious marine complex which helps to protect the skin against UVA and UVB rays, another great reason to apply this in the morning before you start your day. Another key ingredient is Seaweed Extract, which is both an anti oxident and helps to add hydration to the skin.

The consistency of the serum is like a gel. It has a lovely, fruity scent that is fresh and appealing, especially in the morning. It feels very cool and soothing when it is applied to the under eye area and the eye socket, I tap it into gently rather than rubbing it in, and find it is very soothing on tired eyes.

The formulation is non-sting or irritating. I have used some eye creams that have left the skin tingling, but this is very gentle. It sinks into the eye area very quickly, and is definitely having an effect in making my eyes appear less tired and a little brighter. I’m finding myself using a lot less concealer in the mornings now.

Caviar Night Moisturiser

The Caviar Night Moisturiser promised to ‘replenish, revive and repair’. As well as the aforementioned cavier extract, the cream also contains Protease, which breaks down dead skin cells and balances natural PH levels, and also contains one of my fave ingredients, Shea Butter which is rich in Vitamins A and E and is a key for deeper hydration.

If you are aethestically minded, it has to be said that this cream is contained in a stunning spherical jar in silver that looks stunning, and would be a great addition to a bathroom shelf or a dressing table. Again, the cream has a lovely fruity scent that brings to mind apricot and strawberries, this makes it very pleasant to use.

For a night cream I was surprised by just how light the formulation is, but once it is added to the skin it leaves you feeling very taut and nourished, you actually feel like you can feel the cream moisturising and really working. The cream sinks into the skin very quickly and easily, great if you are planning on going straight to bed after moisturising, and the formulation is also non greasy, with the skin feeling very soft once the cream is absorbed.

I have to say I love this cream, it is such a gentle, easy cream to use and it does leave the skin feeling nourished and refreshed. This is non sticky, non greasy and non sting, and it really works. Add in the fact that it is paraban free and made in the UK, and you have a skin product that is a real hero in your regime.

New Products from This Works

This Works has to be one of my favourite natural beauty brands. Their products are designed to work with your body to improve the tone, complexion and feel of the skin, and I have yet to meet one of their products that I haven’t totally loved. With Summer (and holidays) on the way I want to get my skin looking as good as possible, and so I have been trying a couple of new products from the This Works range – because anything that promises glowing skin has got to be worth a try!

Energy Bank Skin Glow

You know when you put something on your face and then you keep touching it because it feels so soft – that is the precise result of applying the energy bank skin glow. Full of natural ingredients that include green algae, vitamin C, red algae and corn seed, this is a multi-tasking serum designed to be a pick me up to dull skin, add hydration to dry skin, and to address issues related to ageing spots and pigmentation.

The bottle is pump action, and a little goes a little way – I used two small pumps daily. I applied this after my cleanser and toner in the morning – it sinks right in so takes no time at all. I then added my make-up over the top as it also works as a primer. The concentration is thin so it almost feels like a drink for your skin, adding a glow as soon as you put it on. There is a fine scent which makes it smell lovely and clean – again, a perfect pick me up for mornings when you feel a little sluggish.

This leaves my skin feeling fresh and revitalised – there is no sting, even on my sensitive skin, and I  feel happy using this every single day. A total thumbs up from me!

Skin Deep Beauty Oil

This handbag sized product (8ml) is a little gem. Containing the gloriously scented Rose, Neroli and Jasmine, this roll-on product is great for nourishing dry skin (I always love oils for this, even on oily skin), and with the heady, yet calming scent, it is also said to ‘elevate the mood.’

I use this on my pulse points – wrists, neck and elbow joints when I am feeling a little ‘off’ – either due to tiredness or headache. I have also applied this to the pressure points at my temples if I feel a headache about to come on – it is soothing and seems to ease the pressure.

I also suffer from dry skin around the edges of my face and have used a little there – it softens the skin and adds much needed oil and moisture to the extremeties.

Another must try products – mine now lives in my handbag.

The Body Shop Drops of Youth – The Verdict.

In February I was invited along to The Body Shop in Birmingham’s Grand Central to try out a range of new products. Called Drops of Youth, these products were infused with plant stem cells that were believed to make the skin look smoother and replenished, and yes, younger looking after continual use. (Ypu can read my initial post here.)

I have now been using the products daily for a month, and wanted to share my findings with you, is the Drops of Youth range really ‘all that’ when it comes to protecting and revitalising the skin?

My Skin issues

  • Ageing skin
  • Redness on the cheekbones area, this is generally in small patches, but can, on occasion be much more pronounced.
  • Oily t-zone area
  • Dryness around the edges of my face – the classic combination skin.

The Verdict

There is no doubt that my skin is softer and feels in better condition than when I started using the products. I love using the Youth Essence lotion, this is a total hero product and leaves my skin with a lovely, healthy glow when used in the morning. I also love the fact that the products smell so fresh, but do not sting or irritate my skin in any way.

The dryness around the extremities of my face are much improved, as is the dry area on my chin and neck. This has been a long time problem so this is really pleasing and positive. I was concerned about using an oil based product on the already oily areas of my face, but needn’t have been, the oily products almost neutralise the oil in my face – the look is healthy and glowing, rather than shiny.

Overall, I have been really pleased with the results and will be continuing to use these products for the foreseeable future.
