New season wardrobe updates from Boden

It always seems strange to be talking about ‘new season’ fashion when we are firmly entrenched in the current season, and that seems odder still when the current season is winter. But now is the time when stores and websites start to get the new season drops, ones which point to brighter, warmer days. I am going to be looking at a lot of the new season ranges from the High Streets in upcoming weeks, but am going to start where I always seem to start, with the rather wonderful new collection from Boden.

I guess what I love about this collection from Boden is that it is very much wear now and still wear later. All the new dresses are perfect for adding opaque tights and a cosy knit to now, and then wear with cute flats, bare legs and thin knits when Spring hits. Key point is the Maggie Ottoman dress that is a hero piece of the new range. I would definitely wear this with tights and an ankle boot for Winter wear, but it is a piece that would slot easily into your Summer wardrobe too with sandals due to those fresh stripes. There is also a great striped Maggie skirt that is so versatile – add a cashmere jumper and kitten heels now, and a simple white vest top and espadrilles come warmer times.

As ever with Boden, there are retro influences that are given a modern twist. The Audrey dress has a classic Hepburn- Givenchy neckline, bit feels modern due to the colour blocking. The Maggie Ottoman and classic boatneck striped top are reminiscent of Jean Seberg’s effortless style in ‘A Bout De Souffle’, classic Breton styles that are always wardrobe winners.

I’m loving the use of colour in the latest collection, zesty and vibrant and full of my favourite yellow shade. Even though the weather outside is shocking, this will bring at least a touch of the sunshine back.

Get the Duchess of Cambridge’s latest look at Boden

The Duchess of Cambridge has been spotted looking very slim and elegant, shopping on the Island of Anglesey.  And whilst the press have been focusing on the lack of any remaining baby bump, I must admit to being far more interested in Kate’s outfit, which I think is a great transitional fashion look, perfect for shopping trips and the school run.

Kate’s outfit is a masterclass in classic separates. A Ralph Lauren Breton top, teamed with a pair of black skinny jeans. Add the neutral shoes from Sebago and Kate looks smart yet casual. Many people look at Breton tops as a great spring trend, but they are equally good for those late Summer/early Autumn days when there is a distinct chill in the air. Teaming a Breton top with darker jeans also makes the outfit more Autumnal – leave the white denim and wide leg trousers for Spring looks.

You can get the Duchess Kate off-duty look with some key pieces from Boden.

The Hamptons Tee has become a Boden classic in recent years, and I particularly love the scoop neck detail, which is perfect for those with a larger bust.

The Skinny Urban trousers are super sleek, and would be a great alternative to those who are a little fed up of skinny jeans. These have a sexy, early 1960s styling to them (I’m thinking Elizabeth Taylor zipping around Rome on the back of a Vespa.). Also, these are pigment dyed to fade, so they will only look better the more you wear them.

Kate’s deck shoes are a summer staple, but to pull this outfit into your Autumn wardrobe, I would swap the Sebago’s for a Tasseled Loafer in dark tan. These are still a great comfy shoe for everyday wear, but also look extremely smart – you could easily imagine them worn with trousers and a blazer for a great workwear look.

Kate Middleton earns her spots and stripes.

As one of Team GB’s most glamorous supporters, The Duchess of Cambridge has perfected a style that is both chic and smart, but does not draw undue attention from the athletes. It seems in the last few days that when she hasn’t been wearing official TEAM GB pieces that polo tops and tracksuit jackets, that she has stuck to a wardrobe of skinny jeans teamed with a blazer, and a palette of mainly (what else?) red, white and blue.

The Smythe blazer made a second appearance this week when it was teamed with a Breton striped vest top – a real summer classic. Breton stripes are always such a cool look, and this was effortlessy chic from the Duchess. Every girl should have at least one striped top in their summer wardrobe as they just look great in so many combinations – from wide leg palazzo pants, to denim skirts or tiny shorts. Kate’s version was a vest top, but something with sleeves means that this top will take you right into Autumn with ease.

One of my favourite looks from the Olympics s far has been Kate’s red blazered look. I love the vibrancy of red, and when teamed with polka dots I think this is just genius. Kate’s blazer was another high street hit, this one from Zara, and it is still available online for £69.99. Kate teamed this with black skinny jeans for a smart casual look which again worked really well for the occasion.
