Sue Devitt arrives at Harvey Nichols, Birmingham.

The Harvey Nichols beauty boom just continues to grow and grow! Following hot on the heels of Benefit Cosmetics, this September has seen  the arrival of a new range of cosmetics and skincare products by Australian beauty guru Sue Devitt.  Sue Devitt, for the uninitiated, is a beauty genius who has celebrity client list that boasts  of some of the world’s most beautiful women including Claudia Schiffer, Christy Turlington, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jennifer Lopez, Kim Cattrall, Elle MacPherson , Diane Kruger and Kiera Knightley. Her work has also graced the runways of the likes of  Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Oscar de la Renta and Marc Jacobs. Pretty impressive if you ask  me…

After spending many years travelling the world as a highly successful make-up artist, Sue put these experience to fantastic use by creating  the first “Healthy Beauty” brand of nutrient-rich, color cosmetics featuring a palette for women of all ages and ethnicities.  Sue also revolutionised daily beauty routines by adding anti-ageing ingredients into her make-up, making it more beneficial to the skin. “I identified a niche in the market that had not yet been explored,” she explains. “I work closely with our chemists to formulate make-up that has exquisite colours and terrific benefits to improve the skin’s health.”

Along with the cosmetics line, Sue Devitt has also created a range of innovative,  high-tech skincare. I am looking forward to trying Microquatic™ Oxygen Infusion Masque (£28.50). “It does two great things to create healthy skin: The self-activating foaming experience draws out impurity while infusing the skin with oxygen to leave you with an amazing natural glow,”  Sue says about this wonder product that sounds like a must for every bathroom shelf.

And now, this cosmetics and skincare collection has arrived in the region for the first time, opening exclusively at Harvey Nichols Birmingham on September 3rd. Sue Devitt brings her own personal mantra to skincare”Beauty is an adventure”…with endless destinations. The world is my muse.”I think that  is a pretty  fantastic journey to be on!

Keep your eyes peeled at fashion-mommy.com because in a few weeks Fashion-Mommy will be interviewing Sue Devitt herself! Exciting stuff!

There is no-one more stylish on the school run than Claudia Schiffer. From her glossy hair, to her oh so stylish knitwear, she makes looking glamorous at 7.00am easy.  And now the yummy mummy has transferred some of her style know-how to a new role designing super luxurious cashmere knitwear, and the result is pretty impressive.

The eponymous range features luxury cashmere pieces, including classic cardigans and tubular dresses alongside swing capes and oversized hand-knitted jumpers. These pieces are just perfect for the chilly Autumn days we are now experiencing, and are the sorts of classics that you will wear again and again.

Claudia has taken classic designs and has made them modern and sexy. I love this collection because I really believe it is something Claudia would actually wear herself, unlike some other celeb endorsed products. Claudia says;-“I wanted to make easy pieces that are practical yet chic. Simple but well-cut dresses and tops that you can throw on with leggings and boots for the school run, or with a great pair of earrings or a cool cuff for dinner.’’

The collection is available exclusively in Harvey Nichols in Bristol. Prices start from £260.

The School Run fashionista!

According to a recent poll conducted by Debenhams, six in ten moms feel pressure to dress to impress whilst doing the school run. More than 1/3 wear  heels when they are walking/driving their little ones to school. On average,  they spend one hour and 15 minutes getting ready to drop the kids off. Why is the school run now a fashion event?

I have a two-year old, and whilst not actually doing the school run, I take my little one to play and stay twice weekly. I started off going in jeans and flat shoes – all the better to get down on the carpet to play with cars and train sets. But I was amazed at  just how some of the moms were dressed. Tight skinny jeans, teamed with high heels and Rick Owens style leather jackets seemed to be the norm for some of the moms, with glossy Cheryl Cole hair and a full face of that clever barely there make up. I felt quite dowdy in my jeans, flats, scraped back hair and no make-up look, although I was able to play with Baba in a way that skinny jeans would never allow.

I have since decided that the school run yummy mummy’s are split into two distinct categories. Allow me to introduce them to you.

The Claudia

The Claudia mom follows the perfectly groomed example of Claudia Schiffer. From the top of her glossy hair to the tips of her heeled shoes or boots, Claudia treats the school run as another catwalk appearance. Markus Lupfer luxurious knits are about as casual as Claudia ever gets. Elle McPherson is another honoured member of this group. She even wore red leather trousers to do the school run. These mommys are  never without sunglasses, even if it is a wet Wednesday morning.

The Liv

The Liv follows the example of the lovely Liv Tyler. The school run is when you drop the kids off at school, not a photo opportunity. Therefore, warmth and comfort are the name of the game. chunky knits, flat shoes and Ugg boots all make an appearance. Jeans can be boyfriend style rather than skinny, even converse pumps can make an appearance. SJP is a member of this group, with her cute beanie hats and Ugg boots. These women still wear the inappropriate sunnies…but they are celebrities after all!

The Debenhams poll cited that 39% of women cited competition with other moms as the reason for the glamorous school gates look. Clearly, the Claudia’s have a lot to answer for. 13% dress to impress the hot single dads, whilst 37% admit that they change straight back into something more comfortable when they get home.

So, which mommy are you? Do you paint your nails before you leave for the school run, or are you dragging something from the bedroom floor whilst trying to  get the kids to brush their teeth? Whether you’re a Claudia pounding the playground catwalk, or a Liv kicking a football with the kids, the school run promises to remain an interesting and fashionable experience for all involved in it.
