The Royal Wedding – Meghan Makes A Beautiful Bride

It was the most wonderful of royal weddings. Everyone’s favourite Prince, Harry married Meghan Markle. The bride looked graceful and elegant in a gown from Clare Waight Keller and Givenchy. The groom was suitably handsome and didn’t leave a dry eye in the house with the looks he gave his bride to be, and the ceremony itself was warm and lovely, and full of touching moments that will long live in the memory. Welcome to the firm Ms Markle!

The dress

Meghan has supreme style and always looks amazing, but today she looked incredible in a dress that gave me thoughts of any Givenchy legend, Audrey Hepburn. It was beautiful in its simplicity, very plain, with a boat neck style and ice white colouring, leaving any adornment to the exquisite veil and tiara. I love Vogue’s description:

It was contemporary royal elegance epitomised in an haute couture gown: ceremony sans opulence, romance without the fuss.

Royal wedding dresses do have a protocol to follow, they usually have long sleeves and a demure romantic style. I think this dress is just perfect in that it is timeless, ageless and modern minimalist style that made Meghan look the very epitome of a modern royal bride.

The best dressed guests

The guest list had a Hollywood feel, with Idris Elba, James Cordan, George and Amal Clooney and Meghan’s colleagues from the cast of ‘Suits’ all in the congregation. Add to this the Royal family, and football and fashion royalty in the guise of David and Victoria Beckham, and you have a real fashion feast for the eyes.

My pick of the guests was the stunning Amal Clooney. She was wearing sunshine yellow, which stood out from the many darker outfits. I believe the outfit was Prada, and it was a stunning choice on a super sunny day. I also loved the outfit worn by Princess Beatrice, no lobster style hat this time, but a beautiful 1950s style gown that reminded me of Charles James designs.

Victoria Beckham looked stylish and elegant in one of her own designs – I loved the pop of colour that came from the coral shoe, whilst Priyanka Chopra from Suits looked stunning in the softest lilac suit.

One guest who was criticised for her outfit was Chloe Madeley. Her dress and hat looked lovely, but she was criticised for not covering her shoulders in the church. Pippa Middleton looked beautiful in a floral gown, but, hilariously, the dress was compared to a can of Arizona Green Tea (check out the can…there is a similarity, but the dress is still so pretty though).

All in all, I thought this was one of the most stylish royal weddings of all time.

Friday Fashion – What’s New In Stores

If you are now truly sick and tired of trawling the sales and want to see something new, then this post is just the medicine you need. We are now at my favourite point of the sales, where discounts are up to 70% off, but this can also mean lots of rails of damaged clothing, in no particular order, where mess is the order of the day, and this is certainly not for everyone.

But we are now starting to see some new season pieces in store, along with new pieces that are still perfect for the cold Wintry weather we will have for at least another six weeks or so. Today I am concentrating on a few brands. First is Topshop. I was at an event in the Birmingham Bullring store last night and fell in love with the bright and beautiful new knits that would frankly brighten the dull, foggy days we seem to be stuck with at the moment. Some of the jumpers have a hint of the knitting my nan used to do when I was a child, and this only makes me love them more.

Next is a definite pointer to Spring with the gorgeous Chi Chi London Delicate Dream collection. This is a gorgeous range that incorporates lace, florals and springlike pastels, and is sure to be a celebrity favourite so get in there first.

Speaking of celebrity, I have a great get the look of Meghan Markle’s engagement outfit from New Look, and the style picks from Next from Big Brother’s Emma Willis, who has curated a collection called Emma Loves. It is safe to say that this Emma loves it too.

Happy Shopping!

Channel Meghan Markle This Christmas Party Season

I have a new style crush. On Tuesday Prince Harry delighted the nation when it was announced that he had finally popped the question to the divine American actress Meghan Markle. Meghan, the star of the hit series ‘Suits’  is a princess for the 21st century, mixed race, a feminist, sassy and independent, and the fact that they seem so well suited and totally in love is a really lovely story in our increasingly miserable times.

Meghan’s wardrobe is certainly going to be under scrutiny, and her winter white coat which she wore for the engagement announcement crashed the Line the Label website and showed that the ‘Kate Effect’ may well now be extending to Meghan too. That said, Meghan has already shown that she has style in spades and will probably be rivaling Kate’s fantastic wardrobe as she starts her official royal life.

Meghan is already an established face on the red carpet cycle and always looks immaculate in her choices. She looks amazing in vibrant colours, and works a long sleeved shift style in a modern way. I really can’t wait to see what she brings to the royal style file, but think it will be something that is more edgy and modern than the classic elegance that Kate opts for, more fitting for her role as the wife of someone further down the line to the throne.

I have been looking at Meghan’s red carpet choices, and think they provide some great inspiration for Christmas party dressing this season. A silver shift is a party classic that looks fabulous, especially when teamed with black accessories. Red is the perfect Christmas choice, and Boohoo has a massive range of red dresses of all styles, shapes and shades. If red or sparkle are not your thing, then you could opt for a classic black maxi dress, or a neutral shade that can fit any occasion.
