Disney on Ice Magical Ice festival is almost here

As a huge fan of Disney on Ice, the arrival of a brand new show always leads to a real sense of excitement – the shows are always magical, sparkling and thoroughly good entertainment that leaves the whole family feeling happy and satisfied. But the new show, ‘Magical Ice Festival’ is causing thousands of children up and down the country to feel almost dizzy in anticipation. For this is the first show featuring scenes and characters from the huge worldwide hit, the phenomenon that is ‘Frozen.’

Yes, sisters Anna and Elsa, along with reindeer Sven and that hilarious snowman Olaf, will be taking to the ice as they journey up the Northern Mountains in a story that promises to bring fun and adventures along the way. The introduction of the Frozen characters has created huge interest in this particular Disney show, with eleven extra shows being added to an already extensive nationwide tour.

Of course, this being a Disney show, it is not just the Frozen cast performing on the ice. Perennial favourites Mickey, Minnie and the crew will be leading the show, introducing us to segments including the Disney Princesses Ariel, Rapunzel and Belle. But it is the Frozen segment which is raising expectation levels so high. Producer Nicole Feld has said:- “In
(our) more than 30 years of producing Disney On Ice shows, Feld Entertainment has been waiting for a film like Frozen. The most exciting part of bringing characters like Anna and Elsa to the ice for the first time is knowing that they have a powerful and inspiring message
that resonates with audiences as the sisters discover the true meaning of love.”

Disney on Ice – Let’s Party!

Wednesday saw the premiere night for the latest Disney on Ice Show ‘Let’s Party’, at the Birmingham LG Arena. With my Mickey Mouse crazy son and gorgeous niece in tow, we headed out to the LG Arena to catch the show, and enjoy a very special VIP meeting with the great man and his lovely lady. (I’m talking of Mickey and Minnie of course!)

Disney on Ice shows are always something special, and this one proved to be no exception. The show was a lively mixture of songs and ice dance illustrating all the special celebrations that take place throughout the year, from birthdays, Valentine’s day, holidays and Halloween, right up to a very special celebration of Christmas. There were more Disney Characters than you could dare to name. from the aforementioned Mickey, Minnie and the gang, to all the beautiful Disney Princesses and their respective handsome princes. Also in attendance, more unusually, were a motley group of villainous characters, from the cartoonish Captain Hook, to the downright sinister Jack Skellington.

The show careered through at a frenetic pace, ensuring the young audience never became bored. The hilarious ‘Unbirthday’ sketch involved crashing birthday cakes and the cast of Alice in Wonderland racing around in celebration of Pinocchio’s ‘unbirthday’. The sweet Valentine’s scene proved to be the favourite of my little boy, who just adored Minnie looking for her lost love Mickey, whilst admiring the romance of various Disney heroines, whilst my nine-year old niece was truly impressed with the Halloween sketch, complete with huge cobwebs dropping from the ceiling and Cruella De Ville totally stealing the show.

My own personal favourite sequence was the Christmas scene, if only for the wickedly funny site of a huge pig on skates. With the whole stadium festooned in silver tic-a-tape, twinkling lights and all the characters in exquisite costumes, this was a gorgeous fantasy scene that will stop in the mind for a long time, and proved a wonderful end to what had been a memorable night.

Disney brings it’s Magic to Birmingham

As a fashion blogger, I get invited to all sorts of fabulous events, but it is rare that I am invited to take my family. So it was a really special occasion this week when I was invited to attend the VIP opening of Disney Live at Birmingham NIA, and was also asked if I would like to bring the family along too. I didn’t need to be asked twice – I knew my Donald Duck fanatic Joe, and my Disney Princess niece Lia would just adore the event.

The afternoon started with a special pre-show reception. The children were delighted to be given a Mickey Mouse figure each, and the table was filled with balloons so I knew Joe would be happy. There was also a table overflowing with cold drinks – much-needed as the mercury was hitting the late 20s outside. Food was then served, gorgeous oer d’oeuvres of mini burgers, chicken and fish goujons, and mouth-watering strawberry and custard tarts. The children were then delighted with a visit by a couple of the stars of the show, Mickey Mouse and Goofy, who were happy to pose for numerous photographs (such professionals). And then it was onto the show.

And the show is simply mesmerizing. A great mixture of Disney characters and talented magicians, the show is bright, vibrant and wonderfully magical, even aside from the actual magic. Familiar and much-loved scenes from Disney films come to life in spectacular fashion, from Cinderella’s dress being transformed from rags to a glittering ballgown, Princess Jasmine’s levitation scene, to everyone’s fave, those dancing brooms from Fantasia. Joe loved the comedy moments involving a very truculent Donald Duck (he actually told me  ‘I just love that Duck!’) whilst my niece Lia was puzzled by how the magicians could cut the dancing-girls in half.

This is truly a glittering spectacle, complete with a simply stunning ending My little one has told everyone about the Magic of Mickey Mouse, and can still describe Donald’s disappearing act three days on. This show is highly recommended as a really exciting afternoon for those with young children.

With Huge thanks to Tara Tomes and the NEC Group for the invitation and giving us such a wonderful day.
