2017 is a very special day for my family as it is the year my little brother gets married. His fiancee Natalie will make a honest man of him this July in the beautiful, sunny surroundings of Cyprus. I am getting very excited already, not just at the thought of two weeks in Pathos, or even at the idea that my youngest sibling will finally be married, but at the idea of getting very dressed up for the wedding. Because who doesn’t love getting dressed up!

There used to be hard and fast rules about how you dressed as a wedding guest. Hats seemed to be obligatory, as did pastel colours and smart two piece suits of the kind Jacques Vert do so well. But these days it really seems anything goes. You can wear black, in fact I wore black as Maid of Honour for my sister’s wedding. You don’t have to wear a suit, whether you be male or female, more casual options can also work as more and more weddings take place outside the tradition confines of the church. Hats are no longer obligatory – you can opt for a fascinator, a jewelled headpiece or nothing at all. Even white or ivory are no longer off limits for guests. I got married in Greece, and with the high temperatures most of the guests wore white or cream linen to stay cool in the heat.
