John Lewis Secret Santa…and a touch of Temperley

You may remember a few weeks ago I told you all about the Bloggers Secret Santa that I was taking part in, courtesy of John Lewis. Well, last Friday I received my present through the post, chosen by the lovely Sioned of Tea and Fairylights,

I don’t mind admitting that I was super excited to open the present- I am a fan of all things Christmas, and I possibly get even more excited than my four-year-old, which is definitely saying something. On tearing the packaging I let out a little squeal when I saw a Somerset by Alice Temperley label, and realised that this was a gift of cashmere.

Sioned had chosen the most wonderful cashmere snood in a soft grey cable design. Long enough to be either worn loose, or to be looped twice for a snug fit, this is a piece of luxury that is suitable to be worn every day. Sioned tweeted me and said;

yay!!! Oh I’m so happy ūüėÄ I thought- every mum needs a touch of cashmere for the school run ūüôā i hope it makes you feel glam first thing in the morning xxxxxxx’

I have been so lucky with the gift that Sioned chose for me, it is a perfect choice for me, I couldn’t have chosen any better for myself. I know I will be wearing it all Winter , contrasted with soft pinks and navy shades. It feels so soft to the skin, a real touch of luxury.

Kate wears Temperley to greet the athletes

At a reception at Buckingham Palace to salute Britain’s golden summer and the wonderful athletes created it, Duchess Kate showed off a new dress that has so far received decidedly mixed reviews. The black and gold dress from Alice Temperley has been described as being too ‘busy’ with floral applique panels, a frilled skirt which also had a pleated panel, and a silk sash belt at the waist, there was certainly a lot going on. But, in my opinion, this does not distract from the beauty of the gown, which I think was perfect in it’s cocktail length, beautiful embellishment, and also in the use of gold as a motif.

It seems that this dress has been custom made by Alice Temperley for the Duchess, but it contains many of the hallmarks that feature in other Temperley designs, notably the mesh panel and frilled sleeve detail. This can be seen in one of the fab designs Alice produced for her ‘Somerset’ collection for John Lewis, the ‘Spot Mesh’ dress. Another striking point is the use of black and gold as a colourway. With flapper trends and the Great Gatsby on its way, the use of the most Art Deco of colours shows Kate is in tune with style trends once again, but is interpreting them in an elegant and regal way.

Somerset by Alice Temperley is now available at John Lewis

This is one Autumn/Winter launch that has got me truly excited. Somerset by one of the UK’S top designers, Alice Temperley, is finally available at John Lewis. This collection has been designed exclusively for John Lewis by the designer, a favourite of Kate and Pippa Middleton no less,¬† and is Temperley’s first collaboration for the UK high street.

This is a truly beautiful collection that has all the hallmarks of the established Temperley design. The wonderful ad campaign features English Rose model Lily Donaldson, who looks wonderful in the lines Рthe perfect face for this collection.  The pieces themselves show influences as diverse as Victoriana and Boho, along with more masculine military elements and a range of different prints.

There are exquisite full length gowns that combine lace and chiffon, animal print designs where silk and lace merge perfectly together to create eminently covetable pieces,  and the most desirable cape style coat, in mouthwatering camel, that will easily take you from winter to winter, without aging or dating.

The 60 piece collection is sure to be a sell out, offering a piece of Temperley at an affordable price.

Here are a few of the standout pieces.
