My party season officially started last week when I enjoyed my first Christmas dinner at MPW in the Cube, Birmingham (You can read my review of that here.) MPW is a sophisticated setting and so it was the perfect place to try out a gorgeous cocktail dress that the lovely people at Wallis had very kindly sent me. This was the teal square shutter dress, and it proved to be the perfect look and fit.
I am a huge fan of Wallis dresses, which I think have the right level of style and sophistication for women who are most definitely not teenagers. The teal shutter dress is a perfect example of a chic, elegant design that is eye-catching and still age appropriate, with a sexy pencil skirt and a see thru bodice.
I was a little worried at first about wearing the dress, as I had heard other people say it was unforgiving, and form-fitting. I thought that maybe it would be a little on the clingy side. But I was so pleasantly surprised. The fabric is stretchy (always a plus for me.), but not clingy so I didn’t feel like my belly (problem area) was on show. The tiered skirt was actually a great way to disguise my tummy as a problem area – those tiers confused the eyes which both surprised and delighted me.
The colour is described as teal, but this to me is blue, pure and simple. The panel across the top is so pretty, and reveals just enough skin to make it sexy, but not trashy. This panel makes the dress a great option if you are going to be sitting at a table as the interest is in the top of the dress.
This dress is another winner from Wallis, being one that I will wear with silver sandals when the Spring comes around. Wallis have a great range of amazing dresses this season, so I have some more of my current favourites below.
