X Factor Fashion – Week 2 Tulisa, Nicole…and Ella Henderson.

Week 2 of the X Factor proved that Tulisa can really pull a fabulous look out of the bag when it is called for. With the elegant and beautiful Nicole Scherzinger sitting on the same panel, Tulisa knows that the style bar has been raised – let’s face it, with her bone structure and catlike eyes, Nicole would look great in an earthen sack. But Tulisa is a girl who can always spring a style surprise (albeit not always a good one…) and last night was one of those nights.

Tulisa chose a classy white draped dress with leather panels from New York designer Alexander Wang. There was just so much to admire about this dress. The shift style bodice was very elegant and ultra flattering, whilst Tulisa is one of those lucky people who look really great in white. I loved the draping detail that added a Grecian style to proceedings, something later followed by Jade Ellis and Ella Henderson – this was a really neat touch.

Definitely one of my favourite Tulisa dresses on the X Factor – ever!

Nicole went for a futuristic silver number from Inbar Spector. I don’t dislike this, but this is a case of actually wishing the skirt was a little longer making this into a sexy pencil style. The intricate design is visually striking, and certainly made a statement when Nicole was behind the desk, but it looked a little too elaborate compared to Tulisa’s pared down chic.

But while all the style attention has been focused on the two leading ladies, 16-year-old Ella Henderson has been quietly emerging as a new style star. While Louis likens her retro glamorous looks to Adele (and says this as if this was an insult???) Ella has shown a sophistication beyond her years by wearing beautiful timeless dresses with a fabulous beehive hairstyle. This week she looked simply beautiful in the Haylei maxidress from Ted Baker, bringing to mind Princesses from films like Jason and the Argonauts – totally gorgeous.

The Sunday Live show was a mixed bag. Tulisa opted for a Pucci dress that failed to deliver results. In a monochrome print, this was a full length dress that would’ve been better as a pencil dress or a  mini. Although I loved the twist detail,  the print was just too busy and this was a dress that was clearly too mature for the 20-something Tulisa, and may have actually been a better choice if worn by Nicole.

If Tulisa took the style honours on Saturday night, then Nicole was the clear winner on Sunday. Her Kristen Aadnevik dress was both floaty and rock chick, with leather accents, lace and chiffon in one very pretty package. I loved the way this dress merged the masculine leather with the softness of the chiffon, and also loved that Nicole left her hair loose and flowing in pretty waves.
